Default Moving into my own place!

Right now I live in shared accommodation and mostly for their benefit my movie watching is defined by headphones simply plugged into the TV. Honestly, it does the job.

However, obviously, as I am using BDs I would rather have a system to play my stuff out loud, so what's a good first time budget set up to take my "virginity" with?

It will be a very small space as I'm on a tight budget and it will more than likely be in an apartment complex so I although I don't have to worry about someone literally being in the bedroom next door, I still want to respectful. A very personal surround sound experience suits me fine. I just want the smallest, cheapest upgrade I can get that is still worthwhile doing, as the actual TV speaker just doesn't do the job.

I don't really know what is realistic in this context but really as little as possible, with all the other costs involved in moving house I can't afford anything expensive.

I personally think you're going to want to at least get a receiver and 5 surround speakers. Being in an apartment complex you might want to skip the sub for now since you're on a budget. I'm currently on 7 speakers with no subs, and it still sounds great.

A decent 5.1 receiver will run you somewhere between 200$-400$. You can get 5 speakers for under $500, there are a few brands in this range other than the polks I suggested in the other thread.

The other thing to consider is the room setup you have in your new place, if you can't fit floor standing speakers or wire/fit surrounds then that limits you. Sound bars are also an option, but you won't see as much of an impact with one of those.

I only started visiting this forum again a few weeks ago, but it seems to be more dead than what I remember. Hopefully others will weigh in as well.
