Action films, including fantasy and sci-fi have great discrete surround activity much of the time, but dramas/comedies/romances etc. not so much.
Which non-action film has the most active discrete surround track? Animation doesn't really count. ![]() EDIT: What I am looking for are films, such as Days of Heaven, Immortal Beloved, or Doctor Zhivago, where action clearly isn't of any major importance. Titanic has too much action to qualify IMO, as it is a disaster movie, and those usually contain a fair amount of extras. As I wrote above: Dramas/Comedies, and not action comedies. ETC. I really enjoy seeing how posters just dont get the thread. Seven, Titanic, Life of Pi, Dances with Wolves, Inside Man, Master and Commander - all elements of action in there. There are plenty of musicals that have awesome surround tracks but i'll leave those out for now.
Here are my choices: - Amelie - Rushmore - Days of Heaven - Heaven's Gate - Requiem for a Dream - Miral |

I knew this would spiral into semantics.
Non-Action means films that arent in the Action Genre. Thats how i interpreted it. Dramas can have action but not be an Action film. Comedy can have action but not be an Action film. ****in' Life Of Pi is not in the Action Genre. So now its films with absolutely NO ACTION scenes, that has great Surround. Nymphomanic???? |

So any adventure movie without guns and explosions is a non-action film? Mother nature existed before Michael Bay. I guess Twister, The Day After Tomorrow, Cast Away, and 2012 are not action/adventure films - they are all drama films then??? An adventure film is usually merged with the action genre - usually called "action/adventure." If a movie such as Life of Pie, The Grey, Vertical Limit, The Way Back, Cast Away, Gravity or Titanic involves some type of epic crash, challenges of Mother Nature, and many "adventures" to survive, that's not your usual dramas but these are movies that typically have awesome audio tracks. Get back to the topic rather than nitpicking the difference between The Expendables and Life of Pie: "movies with awesome audio surround tracks that aren't expected to have awesome audio surround tracks due to its genre." I wonder if it can be done? Yeah, let's all play dumb and pretend that watching trailers to Life of Pie and Se7en would make us expect dull, plain audio like in a Woody Allen movie.
"Golly gee, I just watched the trailer to Life of Pie. I wonder if that "epic ship crash and survival in the ocean with a tiger on my ass" movie is going to have awesome audio? Hmm, it's also playing in 3D and IMAX. hmmmmm" Last edited by toddly6666; 12-28-2014 at 05:36 PM. |
