ugh, death comes to my PS3

my PS3 is now blinking red, I can't remember exactly what that means but i'm guessing its the HDD.
all I did was rent and download The Matrix in HD and I had about 18GB's left, if it is the HDD can I just buy a new one and swap it?... also whats the Sony number? thanks guys.

Wow - sorry to hear. Don't know if that's a hard-drive issue or not. Since your were going to get one anyway, you could always try the swap and see what happens.

yellow night is dead, switching between red and green is overheating and you should leave it for a couple of days not sure what flashing red is.

welp, just got off the phone with Sony customer service, the guy thinks its a fan issue but they will send me another console for $150, I told him I was afraid of getting a 40GB and he said he didn't want to do that because they don' t like short changing their customers, doesn't want to rip us off because it would be like stealing, he wants to give us what we paid for, haha... so yes I hope its a 60GB, I will be relieved if it is.

so now i'm stuck with DVD's and my PS2, I guess its time to buy God Of War II

now... i'll bow my head in silence for my PS3... R.I.P. my baby that I got on January the 12th of '07 i'll always remember you.

I just got mine back! 60 gig (160 gig but I had to swap back to the original drive before I sent it in b/c they can't guarantee you'll get the original back). I got the same case back, but they gutted it and replaced the innards. New motherboard and blu-ray drive per the receipt I got. The sad part is that it is recognized as a new PS3, so my Rockband bands, characters, progress and DLC was lost after the restore from my backup. No biggie on the DLC, I just had to re-download from PSN (still have a few songs left to go!). The user account won't restore either, not a big deal, I couldn't remember my PSN password, so that took a couple of extra steps.

Overall the experience with the repair was great, all things considered. Mine was in Canada so the price was $169 rather than the $150. I'm back to having a 160 GB fully backward compatible PS3!

Edit: Oh yeah! If you're a Rockbander see if you can find the disc only version used. I picked one up at EB for $10. Really good for what is essentially a 2 1/2 week rental. All the PS3 instruments work like a charm.

So now your "count" of PS3s is two deep, and since you don't have the first one anymore, I think you can call Sony to have the old one removed from your account so that your "count" will go back to one.

No problemo... on the sheet you have to fill in (comes in the return box) there should be a line for stuck media in the drive. I think they'll return it to you if you put it in there. I can't be sure because mine still worked somewhat when I sent it away (disks froze up - games, movies, whatever). Just keep a photocopy of that sheet when you send it in, just in case. Good luck on the return.

Sorry there's no PS2 version of warhawk for you.

well, sorry to hear that, mate, I feel bad anytime I hear about a PS3 malfunction or death. I don't know what I would do, when mine finally dies.

A Wii!!? good luck. i bought one just because i had some extra money, and ended up takin' it back. outside of the wii bowling and Mario Galaxy and i guess Zelda, the wii did absolutely nothing for me. I would never ever, ever, ever, EVER choose it over a PS3. even i had to replace it.

yeah... you guys wouldn't believe what was coming out of my mouth, I was so upset... never really noticed how much this machine can be this addictive to make me react in such a way, I even through my remote at my computer in frustration, hahaha

but with consoles its a normal thing, especially with the first models like mine is, I got my PS2 in '02 and its still working! so if yours dies... don't trip out, just make sure you have your memory backed up, haha... oh and I didn't spend $400 for mine, I spent nearly $800 with a game and two contollers.

Shipping is paid by Sony though.

It was either 2 2day ships, and 1 overnight, or 2 overnights and 1 2day total. Do consider that part before griping about the cost.

Did you buy it on a credit card? Any good credit card will extend your warranty for a year for free.
