United Kingdom The Medusa Touch

Considering buying Network's The Medusa Touch. Never seen it but the plot sounds like the kind I might like; is a blind buy worth it?

How is the PQ on this release? Has it been DNR'd at all?

Thanks to the script, performances and concept I never get tired of watching this, even though it was obviously shot on an inadequate budget.

One of my favourites.

I remember watching it when I was little and going "woah" at the end when he
[Show spoiler]writes out Windscale. But then I had to ask my parents what Windscale was. When they said it was Sellafield, I went "woah!!!".

From memory a few years on… I thought it looked fine for a film of its age. But the film itself is pretty bad despite starring both Lino Ventura and Richard Burton. Think third-rate Omen rip-off.

There’s absolutely no similarity to The Omen. That’s nonsense.

Thanks for the comments on PQ.

I'm very familiar with the film having watched it many, many times when I was younger.

No, it’s not “nonsense”. On first page of Google alone, these random reviews all mention The Omen so clearly I’m not the only one:

That certainly prompted me to see what alternatives there were. I can't stomach Imprint's prices which, for a BD, are higher than a 4K from any other studio and it's not as if they go to town with new 4K scans of original film elements and spend ages producing the best version possible.

I owned the ITV DVD of The medusa Touch which looked ropey. The network Blu improves on the PQ noticeably.

I paid £6 for my copy so I'm happy.

As regards it being an Omen rip off not even comparable.

Yep, watched both and never thought Omen when watching Medusa Touch or vice versa.

Resurrecting dead threads is trending so...

I was watching these edited, and illustrated, videos of old Smersh Pods and then went back to listen to the whole thing on Spotify. Great stuff.

The movie doesn't rip off The Omen as such but it's foolish to deny that it wasn't afraid to cash in on the success of that movie. Supernatural death and disaster is what people watched and loved The Omen for. And that's what The Medusa Touch is selling.

I wonder if we'll ever get a UHD.
