Default Boardwalk Empire or Deadwood?

I've been in a TV rut lately and I'm looking to find a new series to get into, maybe buy a couple of seasons.

I've heard these series are both pretty good, but which one in your opinion is better?

Why and which seasons are the best?

There's plenty of nudity in both of them, but the superior show would have to be Deadwood. It can be a bit off-putting, though, if you're not into an excessive amount of cursing, specifically the word "co**sucker." Also, most of the cast speak in a sort of Shakespearean and flowery tone, all while saying some of the nastiest shit you've ever heard.

So yeah, Deadwood is an awesome show.

They're both up the top in terms of shows. Similar quality, writing, set design, etc.

Start with Deadwood, but make sure to watch Boardwalk too because it's too good to miss.

Deadwood is freaking hard to find.

Went around town to Best Buy, Wallmart, Target and some buy/sell shops and couldn't find a single copy of season 1 on dvd or blu-ray.

It's HBO, do you have to ask?
Even the five-part mini series Mildred Pierce, which I didn't think would have any, has nudity. HBO is sex obsessed.

Anyway, I never seen Deadwood, but I watched Boardwalk Empire and thought it was boring. Though I've only seen the first season, it might have gotten better?

I was reading through some of the Deadwood one-star reviews on Amazon and they're pretty funny.

90% of them are from prudish conservative types who were shocked and horrified by the offensive language. I guess they were expecting a remake of Lonesome Dove or something.

...did anyone here think the profanity was over the top?

Not at all, they are just words after all.

For those who like and/or love shows like The Wire, Breaking Bad, The Sopranos etc....would you put Deadwood at that level of quality?

...or is it a notch or two below?

Better than all three, IMO. That being said, I'm not the hugest fan of Breaking Bad and The Sopranos. Actually need to finish them still.

Biggest problem with Deadwood is that HBO canned it and it never got a proper ending. I haven't bought the blu-ray because of that.

Boardwalk Empire has a great setting, but it's pacing was really off, IMO. Most of the time it was pretty mediocre, but at other times it was tense and spectacular.

So you're saying that Deadwood is an all-time great level show?

...what makes it so good?

The F word is used 2,980 times in 3 seasons. 1.56 times per minute. The C word is used frequently. In general, the language is constantly vile, disgusting and foul. But it's used perfectly and the writing is 5+ stars.

ALL seasons of BOTH shows are mandatory viewing.

There are deep and rich characters that must not be missed.

If you haven't yet seen it, add HBO's ROME to your list. Another must.

If you could only watch one of them for the rest of your life, would you choose Deadwood or Boardwalk Empire?

Deadwood is one of the top 3 television shows ever created in my opinion. I love Boardwalk Empire though, but it's not even close.

Love both, but prefer Boardwalk which is in my top five shows of all time along side The Sopranos, The Wire, Mad Men and Breaking Bad.

Deadwood because the dialogue is very unique and special. It's like meaningful, poignant, vulgar, Shaksperean poetry.

But Boardwalk is frakin awesome too. Awesome badass characters.

Boardwalk Empire is good for the first 2 seasons then it goes downhill and then really disappointing especially the last one is horrible, I'd rate the first 2 seasons at the same level of quality and awesomeness as shows like The Wire, etc.

Never heard of Deadwood oO
