I barely got all of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure series because of Super Techno Art's....

How's the PQ on that? Considering the little dialogue in the movie, lack of English subs/dub seems like a minor issue.

Judging by the comments here, I don't think you're alone, Thomas.

Well, whoever the hell owns the rights, that's a movie that has gone too long without a NA release.

The PQ was fine from what I remember, nothing negative comes to mind. As you said there's little dialogue and it's one of my favorite anime so I had to pick it up.

Oh goodie, another premium-priced anime distributor. I hope these companies realize on some level that the increasing proliferation of expensive anime sets compete against one another. There are only so many fans willing to spend $100 and up on anime Blu-rays.

I wonder how much more expensive Hal would have been, if distributed directly by Pony Canyon instead of having FUNimation distribute it?

Probably high, then again we won't really know until the prices start trickling down. I'm hoping that they are a happy middle between Aniplex and Funimation. Wishful thinking...probably.

Thanks for the link, man. That Blu-ray looks beautiful. Considering it's from Japan it isn't horribly expensive. Since it's unlikely to come to America anytime soon it would be worth a buy.

Don't want to get too off topic, but in that thread is another link to a post mentioning other Japanese BD releases like Steamboy, Tokyo Godfathers, Metropolis, and Millennium Actress. Perfect Blue eventually made it to the UK. Any word on the previously mentioned anime making it to the UK or America? Would love to have Millennium Actress on BD. (Also, can anyone point me to some directions for adding subs to BD's? )

Only $100? Gosh, it's a wonder how fans survived the 00s...

I'm open to spending insane amounts of money. I just need to feel like I get what I'm paying for in content.

I admit that I likely won't be interested by any of their initial offerings right out the gate, unless they start by including some of their more vintage properties.

I'm hearing that Denki-Gai will be $89.99 msrp, and $71.99 street, for a 4 episode Collector's Edition - so yeah, more like Japan prices than Aniplex, even... The msrp is on par with what I paid to import the three 4-episode collector's boxes of Gargantia, those were $89 each - but one plus will be that you won't have to pay for overseas shipping, at least...

From WTKs twitter:

http://umanohone.us/bd.html

Updated link has pics, prices, etc. GWG pretty much nailed it.

Not 100% sure how i feel. Been paying around 50 for 4-5 eps from the other guys 30 bucks more isnt AWFUL, but its a bit harded to swallow...

And my fisrt instincts say i do NOT like that weird packaging, what with the big 'dodeka' case?

And here I remember the days of $200+ priced complete collections of anime. Individual releases were also $25 for all 7 or 8 dvd volumes..... according to my database Eva perfect collection set me back $229.99.

Depending on the anime, that's cheap these days. When you have 200+ episode shows, and they are sold in multiple volumes for between $30 and $50, you're looking at way more than $200 nowadays.

Examples of this include Ranma ½ ($40x7) and Sailor Moon ($50x10), and to a lesser extent because it's cheaper DBZ ($20x9)

You sorta get more eps with the shows you mention, Scarface. Your argument falls flat on its stomach.

Well I did say "with the 200+ episode shows" so I'm aknowledging these are exceptions.

Individual releases had MSRPs of $30. I remember paying around 200 bucks for individual volumes of RahXephon, but at least that was including that nice box and the movie. I paid less for Eva a bit earlier, as it was a complete collection of singles, in a collector's box, of course.

It's still a nonsensical argument. You get way more eps with something like One Piece (of crap) than a 26 ep series like Eva.

It's cheap now a days compared to SAO and Kill La Kill.

As for the Denki-Gai release... Eh. It's not the episode count for me, it's the premium content. Not much in interested in. Especially the pin ups. I don't need sexified posters of character that look like they're ten to hang up on my wall. This will be a three volume series, so I'm still considering picking it up, but I'll give aniplex credit, for their prices, their sets are vastly more impressive looking.
