Cool Region 2 Blu-rays on PS3

Hey everyone,

I have been wanting to purchase Run Fatboy Run on Blu-Ray for the longest time, but I have to Ebay it to get it over here. But before I do, is there any problem with Region 2 Blu-Rays? Will they play in a PS3?

If it's a Region 1 PS3 it will only play Region 1 DVD's.

Thanks guys, appreciate it! This is disappointing news though! But if a Blu-Ray is Region Free, it will play fine correct?

If a blu ray is region free it will play.

If a DVD is region free but PAL .... it still won't play in a NTSC (US) PS3. (As an example I had a UK region free DVD of Pink Floyd's PULSE and my US PS3 rejected it because it was PAL so I picked up a second hand NTSC copy here.)

You could likely play that region 2 DVD in one of your computers with VLC (freeware.)

I have lots of DVDs from France (mostly kids cartoons) and if I want to watch one on the PS3 I'll just convert the movie itself to MP4 and the use a flash drive to watch it on the PS3.

Also bear in mind that UK/European Blu-ray special features in standard definition will not play on an US PS3. Obviously if they are of no interest to you that wouldn't be a problem.

Cheers!

US PS3 will not convert PAL to NTSC, so if the extras are SD, they'll be in PAL and it won't work. Multistandard televisions are essentially unheard of here because virtually no one imports movies here (in the big picture)

That's because a French PS3 can read both NTSC and PAL. But US PS3 are NTSC only.

I didn't know that actually (I imported a US PS3), but 90% of my BDs are also US imports, so.......
