Is their much additional cost with stop motion 3d though? I didn't think their was.

This does look interesting but i can't decide if i should blind buy or not.
I'm getting a bit tired of the run of the mill animated ones (not the Frozen's or Kung Fu Panda's!!). We need more good live actions like need for speed. I actually thought the 'upside down' movie was pretty well done.

BoxTrolls looked good from what I remembered of the trailer but im just gonna wait this one out and see if its a real keeper.

that's how I feel with Pixar's movies - the 3D effect on select movies is hit or miss, to pointless. The best *wow* conversion for Pixar in my mind is 'Monsters Inc.' Laika's is obviously 'Caroline'

Paul W.S. Anderson movies have amazing 3d! The depth gets stronger with each 3d film he's made! RE4, RE5, and Pompeii are reference quality native 3d movies with high medium to strong 3d imo

Bottom line is...we need to support the 3D media no matter if its medium or awesome (granted if its poor it should be avoided) otherwise we will all be complaining about Laika Studios and how like Disney they aren't making 3D Blu Ray releases for us anymore.....

Laika, I think portrays the story more than the 3D - which isnt overly an issue in some ways...if subtle 3D can help to draw you further into the story then for me its probably a bigger success than having endless spears pointed at your face etc etc, going WOW but not getting into the story!

I do agree though that we as 3D consumers are screaming out for a better 3D experience from newer titles - 3D has outgrown the "we dont want to push it too far because we dont know if it will work well" superb depth can work very well as a 3D motor.

I havnet seen Boxtrolls yet - but I LOVE Stop motion, and the art behind it - so for me it's a no brainer!

Found through experience that it is better to never-say-never when it comes to 3D depth perception.

It's amazing to me how 3D depth perception changes with component setups that produce perceived illusion. I've had to eat my words on select titles, changing my opinion, using the same media source, but viewing with different equipment.

Also noticed it is becoming more common to read about someone suddenly revealing how a projector setup in the basement is suddenly bringing to life their 3D experience better than when they went to an IMAX theater and then announcing how their display upstairs must not be as efficient as they once thought.

You and I always greatly disagree on what constitutes amazing 3D, strong depth, weak or strong 3D ect. We are never going to agree with each other.
I agree: individual reaction to the 3D experience does vary from one person to another.

This is so true. I picked up a BenQ 1085 recently and the 3D (active shutter) is much more intense (on a huge 135-inch screen) than it was on my 55-inch LG (passive). I have a DarbeeVision DVP-5000 in transit (just one Paul ) and I expect it will enhance the projected view even more.

I will definitely pick up Box Trolls 3D and Book of Life 3D on release day.

Sweet! That's about $22 USD for me. Only difference from the $28 Amazon U.S. version seems to be no DVD included.

Also noticed it says region B/2.

Each of his films has gotten weaker 3d with each film. RE5 and Pompei where a waste in 3d. The only time the 3d was noticeable in pompeii was in the finale and a small number of wide shoots. I like that he shoots in 3d native, but RE4 was a starting point where he should have then improved from. Instead he has just gone weaker each time to the point that the films are mostly 2d films.

Could that be a "creative" move to make the crucial moments of the movie seem "bigger"???

Yes, RE4 and Pompei were atrocious in 3D quality. What a waste of time and money.

I loved this film when I saw it in the theaters. It is such a kindhearted children's film. Also, I thought the 3-D was great in the theater and I look forward to revisiting it on my home theater system.

I felt that way about Paranorman's 3D too. The movies have amazing artwork and animation, though the studio needs to reassess their 3D goals, since they're currently at the "barely 3D" range here. When a movie's 3D is closer to 2D, they've missed the point of 3D. Then it becomes almost like wearing sunglasses during a 2D movie.

Not to say there aren't some decent 3D shots here and there, but for some reason, they're playing it too safe. Maybe they feel their younger audiences can't handle strong Imax 3D quality.

I'll pick this up eventually, but the mixed reviews will make me wait until it hits the $20 or so price point. The Book of Life is released in a week, and it is worth paying full price for, IMO.
