United Kingdom When did BD-Live die?

None of my Sony or WB discs are able to connect to BD-Live anymore.

I never understood the point of it in the first place. I never used it.

I ended up disabling my player's internet connection because the online discs added to the bootup time. I didn't want to sit in the dark with my projector while the disc download some compressed-to-mush trailer off the web!

You don't have to do that, my player is still connected to wifi for updates but it has BD Live turned off.

The big BD-Live bonus feature was a live event held with Christopher Nolan for The Dark Knight. It was all downhill from there when the studios realized the servers cost money and few were checking BD-Live features. Disney actually removed special features and made them exclusive to BD-Live, a terrible decision from the beginning.

A couple of studios still use them to update new trailers like Universal.

Yeah, that's what I did. (On one player, that is - on another I really had to take it offline to avoid it doing firmware updates and erasing the nice region switchable firmware I have on there).

It doesn't seem to work on Fox discs either, which is a shame, as "Avatar" had some interesting BD-Live exclusive bonus features for it.

BD-Live is the Bluray equivalent of the dvd multi angle feature.
Great on paper , not that exciting in practice.

I liked the BD-Live bonuses for Star Trek TOS then found out that on season 2 at least that all the bonus content was hidden on the discs themselves although without access to the codes or by looking on a computer you'd never find it.

My Breaking Bad Blurays were taking 3 minutes to load . De-activated the net connection and now they take seconds

I hope Sony will release an update to the PS4 when it asks you every bloody time if you want to connect to the internet before you play a disc (unless there is something in the settings/set up menu to disable it?)
Anyway glad BD-Live is gone, or going away- what a useless waste of time.
