Default I'm not in the "Target Demographic"

What are some films that you went to or watched, and loved, despite being outside the target audience?

I recently watched "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" and found it delightful. I'm looking forward to the sequel. As a 27 year old heterosexual male who loves Marvel films though, I know this is outside the 'expectation'', but I do enjoy films that are very character driven.

Meet Joe Black
Finding Forrester
The Imitation Game

I also enjoy a handful of romantic films:
You've Got Mail
Runaway Bride
Kate & Leopold

What are some films you enjoy that others might be surprised at?

I'm not a big fan of "rom-coms" either, but "Sleepless in Seattle" is one of my favorites. the only reason I don't have the Blu-Ray yet is the high price-point.

As for other films, I like some musicals, but not a ton of them. Faves include "The Wizard of Oz", "The Sound of Music", Joel Schumacher's "Phantom of the Opera", and "The Prince of Egypt".

Going against a different expectation, I really can't stand most comedy films now. Generally speaking, they rely on "shock value" instead of keeping audiences engaged, which I find really disappointing. I'm also not into brainless action films with almost no heart, like the "Transformers" movies. I saw the first one, but skipped all the sequels upon reading several reviews.

Romantic comedies are my Achilles heel. In fact, most romantic movies in general get me. Titanic f**king wrecks me every single time.

Um...can't think of anything else at the moment, but yeah that's a big one.

Having just finished a project that's getting marked upon who we intend for a target audience, I've come to hate the term. It's really just something that you should be concerned with in terms pitching, it just sort takes the personality out of piece of film because it needs an element of sex or violence to appeal to men. That aside, pretty much everything I watch is not aimed at me, for example a just finished watch The a Thin Red Line an hour or two ago, and that certainly isn't a film made for dude my age who spends his days either inebriated or filled full of shitty junk food.

I dont know target demographic but there was a theatre back up north when I was up there that would show old Sinatra, B&W, foreign language, classics, etc. Even before I could drive, I'd find a way to get there. I'd say I was often about the youngest person there.

The "cinephile" is already someone who defies the target demographic. It's why pretty much none of us identify with it.

Romantic-comedies or romantic-dramas typically aren't marketed toward guys, but some of them I've ended up liking. Awhile back I saw Music & Lyrics with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore, and I liked it because it wasn't overly chick-flicky like some rom-coms are.

I also recently saw The Lake House and thought it was a really sweet, charming little movie. Perhaps I was biased since I already like Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves to begin with, but I've also always been a hopeless romantic, so I liked it.

I'm also not really a fan of musicals, but I like The Wizard of Oz, Popeye and many Disney classics since I grew up with them.

I'm pretty much with you on all this, but the live-action "Popeye" movie sucked. I'm hoping the new CGI film lives up to the hype.

This might just be the most controversial post I've ever read on the forums.

I used to say that I don't like rom-coms, but I am finding that as I get older I am actually enjoying more and more of them.

Other than that, I am pretty open to everything.

I've always defended that there are no such things as "films for women", "films for men" or "films for children". There are just films, and it's up to you if you like them or not. We shouldn't generalize an entire genre based on who's going to like it.
