Can't wait for this. Berberian Sound Studio was very good, even if it did lose me slightly in the final act. If this opens in cinemas in Feburary and the blu-ray/VOD is out in April, I wonder why they even bothered with the two month window between releases?

I couldn't stand Berberian Sound Studio despite being a big Giallo freak (and a Toby Jones fan, and a fan of thrillers about sound guys), but this sounds much more my style. If it's not going to come out in the US for a long time I guess I'll be importing it!

Day-one for me. Gonna try see it in the cinemas but there are two other must-sees out that same week so we'll have to see about that. Unlike the guy posting above me I actually enjoyed Berberian Sound Studio more than any Giallo film I've seen!
Thankfully with AE/Curzon titles the blu-ray comes out 2 months or sometimes even just a month after theatrical release on most titles (sometimes a bit longer if it's an awards contender...for example Leviathan). |

Horrendous artwork. I really hope the US release uses something different. That looks cover looks so...90s?
If that was the only thing I saw, I wouldn't be interested in watching the movie. ![]() But that poster instantly draws me in and makes me curious. |

Unfortunately AE/Curzon rarely go with the cover art you want them to. Sometimes they do, but often they don't - they seem to prefer much more photorealistic covers for new releases, but don't tend to mind for catalogue releases. The most frustrating one of recent memory was their release of Denis Villeneuve's ENEMY, which they refused to use either poster (not the UK quad, nor the original yellow poster) and made their own slightly tacky cover art for it instead:
![]() Indeed that Duke of Burgundy poster is great, but the current cover's not going to stop me buying the film! BTW the cover art has been updated recently (just not in this thread): ![]() |

Interesting BFI Q&A on the Duke of Burgundy - or should that be Borgendy, LOL! Not watched it all yet, but be aware there might be spoilers in there. |

I think when it comes to cover art sometimes there are copyright issues regarding different territories. Also it's going to be a lot cheaper to knock together a quick Photoshop effort, rather than paying for the rights to say... a Drew Struzan original painting.
Cover art is quite important to me, I often go out of my way to buy a release with the best design. Of course the film transfer and the extras are the most important factor though. I'm going to order the US release of Birdman, because IMO it's vastly superior to the the upcoming UK version. ![]() ![]() |

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=256903 Besides, the current artwork for the standard version (on the right) is a placeholder too...not the confirmed artwork yet. I doubt Fox would change the artwork very much from region to region - notice we got the same release for Gone Girl, so why wouldn't we for Birdman (unless they wanted to actually make the packaging nicer, considering it won some big Oscars)? |

![]() ![]() It's a safe bet though, that any UK copy of Birdman will feature that god awful 'watch it anywhere' logo... I think that's why I'll still get the US release. ![]() |

Easily my favourite film this year - and, as with Berberian Sound Studio, not at all what I expected going in.
Mainly because, unlike pretty much all the films that Strickland was inspired by, it's about the emotional/psychological side of an intense relationship rather than the physical/visual one. Go expecting a lesbian smut-fest and you might well be massively disappointed - there's no nudity at all beyond bared shoulders and occasionally thighs. But go expecting a genuinely adult (as in grown-up) film, and you might well love it as much as I did. |

It wasn't showing anywhere remotely close to me, so i'll have to wait until it's available to buy.
I bought Peter Strickland's last film (Berberian Sound Studio) as a blind buy and loved it. Hopefully i'll feel the same way about this. |

Yeah, Berberian Sound Studio really crept up on me. Didn't think I would like it as much as I did. Looking forward to seeing this eventually - my local is also not showing it (nor any of the recent releases I want to see...Blackhat, Kumiko the Treasure Hunter, Catch me Daddy, It Follows)...very frustrating.
Glad to hear the consensus is that it's not just some navel-gazing tosh nor gratuitously raunchy. Still, unfortunately I doubt anyone I know would go and see it with me even if it was showing. |

Just in case people aren't aware, this is out on VOD (for those who like me don't have any showings nearby, and don't want to have to wait).
Strong contender for best film of 2015 for me (can't see anything obvious that will knock it from that spot). Obviously bitrate is a lot lower than the eventual Blu-Ray release and doesn't compare to watching on the big screen, but at £8 for a HD rental from blinkbox its comparable in price to a cinema ticket and I was happy to pay. |
