Default 720p/1080i TV's that handshake with 1080p (but still scale to 768p)

how to get 1080P on your 720P HDTV (For PS3 Users Only)*^*

1. have a ps3 & 1.3 or 1.3a HDMI Cable
2. go to display settings on ps3
3. click on HDMI
4. go to Custom Settings
5. check all of them the 480P is already check. all you need to check is 720P, 1080i & 1080P
6. press the x button or hit the foward(right) button on the d-pad
7. it should work cause it worked on mine

(*) Only works on certain/specific HDTV's with HDCP & HDMI Inputs
(^*) Playing games with 1080P is another step cause certain games go to 720P

IT WORKED FOR ME AND I HAVE A 720P/1080i 32" VIZIO HDTV

To play games on 1080P Selected games (look on the back cover of the game and see video outputs)(Certain Games only go to 720P with no 1080P Option)

Repeat steps 1-4

5. only highlight 1080P

then repeat step 6 & 7

LIKE I SAID IT ONLY WORKS ON FEW TV's & GAMES SO CHECK IT OUT AND LET ME KNOW IF IT WORKS

You wont get "full hd 1080p" still my 32" do that exact same thing but it just maxes its resolution at 768p or whatever (it got 1080i as well) but does not do 1080p. Bottom line theirs no way around getting 1080p other than buying a 1080p tv

To the OP: I want you to look at your tv and watch a BD and then go to Best Buy or Circuit City and see if your tv matches the picture even thou it wont be same movie you'll be able to tell

after you do that click on your remote control that VIZIO gave you and hit the INFO button and see if it says 1080P cause on mine it says 1080p and it plays all the movies in 1080P and certain games on 1080P

the main reason why it's different is because ya'll probably put more memory in your PS3 rather than keep it original.

LIKE I SAID IT WORKED FOR ME AND IT MIGHT WORK FOR SOMEBODY ELSE.

& I HAVE a 60GB PS3 from when they originally came out NO MEMORY UPGRADES JUST KEPT IT ORIGINAL

Nope just a standard 60gb as well buddy they're no that rare. No modifications and what would that have to do with resolution? Make sense and if you wanna make yourself believe you're "full hd" by all means have fun and enjoy. You should call Vizio and tell them you notice this customization and maybe they will use it as a selling strategy and reward you for the idea so you can't sue

As stated earlier. My 32 inch do the same thing but it doesnt have anything on my 47" 1080p and looks twice as sharp and my 32" is a nice damn tv too. I did everything the OP had did and yes i ran it like that but it wasnt 1080p it just max out your resolution at whatever the tv is but definately not 1080 "full hd"

to the op- let's say you have a 720p tv and a device which only outputs 1080p. When you get a higher signal going to your tv then what it supports your tv just downscales it. That's exactly what your tv is doing. It is MUCH better to play a game in 1080i on a 1080i tv then to to send a 1080p signal to a 1080i tv... You may want to consider going back to your supported resolution...

what your TV accepts and what it displays are two different things.

Your TV may accept 1080p, but with a fixed pixel count of 1366 x 768 pixels...it will NEVER be 1080p. (which requires 1920 x 1080 pixel count)

So feeding it 1080p does not really make any difference as its is still only showing 1366 x 768 pixels (~720p)

sorry to burst the bubble.
