Hi all,
Just a thought: There are so many things that are new with blu-ray. I'm sure there are plenty of novices that land up here after googling "blu-ray" trying to find out why they should plonk down some big moolah. There are so many regulars here that know their stuff - and are able to convey all the technical mumbo-jumbo in comprehensible terms. Combining the two points above, why can we not start our own little WIKI within this site? To incorporate my idea, the mods will have to help in that all registered users should be able to edit individual articles - with full public disclosure of edits made. Vandalism, troll-ism, etc. should be pretty easy to detect. Finally, the WIKI made here could be linked to main articles of blu-ray and HD sections on wikipedia.org. I envision this WIKI evolving into a blu-ray manual, a glossary of terms, CODECs, an integrated approach to interconnections of HD components, a "recommended" list of hardware (this one I'm not so sure of). These are just starter ideas... I'm sure - with contributions from the mods, gurus, and expert users here - we'll be able to consolidate a list that would be useful to HD/blu novices and more advanced users. While we can provide rational insight into the advantages of blu-ray, what I wouldn't want to see happen is that these WIKIs become vehicles of FUD against HD-DVD. Then, we'd be just as guilty as some of the shills at AVS. I write this in the Movies forum - but these WIKIs could apply across every category here. Would love to hear your opinions about a WIKI - and suggestions about topics. Rup. |

this could work -kind of- in a normal forum. people who want to add can add within their post with the OP or moderator combining the info into the first post.
Im sorry for not having faith in people, but their are a lot of ass clowns that will become a member just to **** with the post. Its just reality. I promise you within a week of its creation the hddvd jerkoffs will be here to ruin it. |

1. I'd be willing to take responsibility of editing one article - making the edits and then attributing the edits to the poster that made them. This will ensure that only relevant blu-related material gets included. 2. To provide for "dissenting" opinions a subsection could be added. 3. The mods at this forum are not only knowledgable, but have impressed me by the extraordinary balance in allowing reasonable statements from obvious HD-DVD fanboys. Therefore, I'm relatively assured that we could have something very close to the truth. 4. Yes, there are articles in wikipedia.org, but those articles are even more subject to vandalism. Like I mentioned in the OP, the benefits of having a glossary and articles of sort (with cited references and links) would be of immense benefit to people visiting attempting to find out what blu is all about (obvious to us, naturally) - without having to pan through our rants and indulgences. More opinions please!!! Rup. |

As a moderator on a motorcycle forum we did a similar thing with maintenance inputs. I ended up creating a sticky thread and locking it. People PM'd me any new inputs and it allowed me to screen them first. That may be a lot of work for a BluRay post, since there are likely more of us than Z1000 riders, but it may be worth a shot.
