USA V/H/S: Viral (2014)

Pre-Order

Enjoyed the first two better, my opinion.

I've enjoyed V/H/S & V/H/S 2 a lot, so much I bought them on Blu ray and was looking forward to Viral but the main story within the film was shit and the only first two segments were actually good.

As there only were three stories and the wrap-around was rather brief you liked it a lot better than I did.

The only decent thing about this movie was the middle segment, the other two including the wrap around story were awful, huge step down from VHS 2!

Agreed, I believe you're talking about the Parallel Monsters segment, which was at least bearable and could hold my attention, but alas, it wasn't nearly enough to save it. A piece of trash I tell ya!

It was the best of a bad bunch, but it finished just as it got interesting. One thing which so bad about the wrap-around was that it was so confusingly shot, I never knew whether a new story had started or whether that was still part of the general glitchy chaos. I too liked the first two VHS films and don't understand how they dropped the ball so badly with this one. One segment shot for the film was apparently so bad, it wasn't included.

I liked the first two, but I loved part 3.

The segment about the magician makes this worth the price of admission. Really extraordinary. I liked the parallel worlds segment too. Some great creative segments in this, but lame-o wraps (like the first two). Looking forward to the blu.

Extras:
  • Gorgeous Vortex – A Short Film by Todd Lincoln
  • Audio Commentary with Directors
  • Bonestorm: Behind the Scenes Featurette
  • FX Storyboards
  • Galleries
  • Dante the Great: Behind The Magic of Dante The Great
  • Photo Gallery
  • Director Interviews
  • AXS TV: A Look at V/H/S: Viral

It's restoring the sequence that cut just prior to release (separately from the main feature). Doubt it'll make the movie any better though. The series isn't that great as a whole and this was easily the worst.

That sequence was directed by the person responsible for The Apparition. It'll probably make the movie worse than it already is.

I agree with the other posters. I enjoyed the first two films quite a bit. This one was awful.

Has anyone bought this on blu? I've seen it everywhere for only 13.99 and I'm tempted to blind buy it later today. It seems like the only way to see the cut short Gorgeous Vortex. I loved the first 2 so I am curious about this one even if it's gotten a lot of hate.

Can anyone that grabbed the Canadian version of this confirm that many of the extras are missing including the Commentary? Judging by the back, it looks like it was neutered as far as extras are concerned.

I'm in the same boat. Own and enjoy the first 2 and heard pretty bad, some mixed reviews about this one. So..I ended up blind buying at $14. If it sucks, ah well..I'm a completionist lol

If you loved the first two (as I did) then you'll be disappointed. There's no way around that. With that said, if enough people tell you how bad it sucks maybe your expectations will drop so low that it won't seem so bad. I was super excited to see the 3rd film and checked it out immediately after it premiered before any of the hate was public. Needless to say I was incredibly disappointed. With that said, as bad as it was it does have some entertainment value and certainly isn't the worst thing I've ever watched. I'll end up picking it up at some point I'm sure. Where have you guys been seeing it for $13.99?

I enjoyed it more than the first film, but the second is still the highlight of the series. The camera and special effects in this film are the best of the series, and the stories make great use of them. I think most have a problem with this film because the stories for the most part feel very PG, and aren't really trying to be scary. They are just fun stories, something you would see on an anthology series on TV. If that sounds bad to you, then you probably won't like it.

Almost skipped this due to reviews, but I ended up liking it a lot. None of the movies in this series are classics, but VHS2 is the best. I liked Viral more than the first one. I feel like keeping the runtime short was smart. It doesn't overstay its welcome like the first one.

One thing I thought was interesting was how often this movie totally abandons the "found footage" style. A lot of shots are just there, with no "in movie" cameras filming them.

I watched this last night and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Maybe it's because I went into it expecting the absolute worst going off of the extreme hate it was getting from various sources online.

I know a lot of people disliked how it ventured away from the serious tone of the first and second entries in the series, but I loved the laid back and brisk pace of everything. It just felt refreshing to me, the ideas in general.

Bonestorm was really cool and I kinda wish it were a full length movie instead of just a short film because I'd like to know more about the mythology of it.

I really, really enjoyed the first two and thought this one was pretty terrible.

I may pick it up for completion purposes, but not until it's dirt cheap.
