think i know why but i can't seem to work it out. my phones in my house have stopped working and that's getting sorted. but i don't know if my broadband is slow due to the poor phone line or the ISP? ever since the phones have stopped working the broadband is slow. but i'm still getting a connection just a slow one. i used to have 2.0/3.0 mb but now i get a rubbish 0.5 connection speed! so the phone line is still working just not good becasue other wise the broadband would not work at all. do you think that when the phones get sorted, i will get my high speed broadband back?

I'm assuming you have DSL. If your phones aren't working, then 99% positive that your slow service is related. DSL and phones work on different frequencies, so one can be out and the other still working even though they work on the same line. It could be as simple as a cross-connect somewhere along the line, or as complicated as CO issues.
Is there anything that has happened lately that would have caused your phones to go out? I.E. alot of heavy rain, lightning storm, high winds, etc.? |

DSL: Yes bad lines will slooooow down thing, I have 4 phone jacks in my house, 1 the router finds No internet, 2 it is very slow like dial-up speeds & the last I get 1.5-2meg/s (that is the fastest they offer here).
I had a small house fire & had to replace all the phones lines & now the out let that the router found nothing, now gets 2meg/s. Cable: You could have a someone near you that discovered online downloading & that slowing you down. Cable is a shared line, the more people in your area the slower it gets. Your ISP could be doing work on the lines & that noramly will slow you down, but that sometime just last 2-3 days. |

Yup. A shorted or grounded pair can slow down a DSL signal. High resistance opens will either kill it completely or cause your line to become unstable (specifically the upload).
Call in a phone trouble ticket and odds are they'll get it all working. |
