Default Onkyo SR-605 and PS2 connection issues

I tried to hook my PS2 up via component cables the other day, and I was able to get audio but no picture. I had the video hooked upto IN 3, and the audio to Game/TV (per the manual picture for the receiver). I then read in the playstation 2 manual something about the component not working with HD or something, and was wondering if that is the problem with the picture.

If anybody has any idea what I am doing wrong, it would be much appreciated!

I have an Onkyo 605 and my dad has a PS2. I will try to get him to drop it by the house tomorrow and see if I can tell you what the problem is. I suppose the catch is that I know he probably doesn't have component cables so Im not sure how much help I will be.

Have you tried hooking the PS2 up with the composite cables that come with system? Try connecting them directly to the TV and not through the receiver. Then do the same with the component cables. We just want to make sure that its not the cable thats the problem.

Once you verify that its not the cable, I believe there is an option to select HDMI out for the analog in video sources like the one you are choosing.

Another thought is that you have to label the inputs and make sure you are selecting the right audio source.

These are pretty basic tips, but please keep us informed of your progress.

Works fine with the composite, but will hook it up to the TV to check the cables themselves.

I know I tried all the different sources on the PS2, will see if I can tinker with the receiver to see if that works.

I tried all the sources, and none of them showed a picture, just audio.

Did you assign the Component input in the AVR menu system? (manual p. 49)

What cable are you using to go to the tv? If HDMI, make sure the 'monitor out' in the menu is set to on.
