Default Amazon Pre-Order

I finally got ahold of a credit card to use for online purchases and I had a question about the pre-order process on Amazon... does it bill you as the items ship out or does it bill you as soon as you checkout?

As they're shipped. You're not billed until they ship, which makes pre-order a breeze. I frequently pre-order and if the price doesn't drop where I want or I find it cheaper elsewhere I just cancel it.

+1.... The Amazon Pre-order guarantee is great. I keep items on pre-order until the week prior to release. If I find it will sell cheaper at Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, etc, I'll cancel the pre-order. If not, I get it on the cheap through amazon.

Also, if you like to buy a lot from Amazon, consider going "Prime" with someone (family, friends, etc) and split the cost... free 2-day shipping.

Lately Amazon has been price-matching Best Buy and Circuit City. If you pre-order an item, and the price drops by the end of the day on the day of release, they will issue a credit for the difference.

Amazon will refund the difference in price between the price you pay for an item and any subsequent price drops for up to 30 days after the item is shipped.

So, my question is: If you pre-order from Amazon...how long does it take to get the product in relation to the release date? For example: if a movie's release date is Sept 28 and you pre-order it...when will you actually recieve the product? I would personally pay a bit more if i could get the product as soon as it becomes available rather than have to wait a week or so to recieve it through the mail...

I've gotten a couple the Saturday before release and a few as long as 2 weeks later. Most come within a couple of days release day. I am using Amazon Prime though.
