I recently picked up the UK eOne Blu-ray of Looper (tempted by the lenticular slip), and noticed more banding than I remember viewing on my US copy.
A friend of mine also informed me that the eOne Blu of 12 Years a Slave is also inferior to Fox's US version. That's just his opinion, I can't say since I only own the Fox disc. Does anyone know if eOne uses previously existing transfers, or do they do it all themselves? I could very well be seeing things with this banding issue, but I just wanted to know if anyone else has noticed anything questionable about eOne's releases. UPDATE: Use this thread to discuss eOne, StudioCanal, and Lionsgate releases. Highlight any sub-par blu-rays you've purchased so others don't make the mistake Last edited by ryanlovesmovies; 03-12-2015 at 03:11 PM. |

I can tell you Parker has awful banding issues. I also noticed some during Insidious 2.
I've been wary of their releases for some time now. |

Same transfer new encodes. Lionsgate and Studio Canal (Rush is one example) releases can occasionally have banding on them too. eOne's Dark Skies has wicked banding.

Thanks for all of the feedback, glad to know I'm not crazy.
Are there any comparisons at all of US vs. eOne releases? If you'd like, I can list the truly abysmal releases from eOne in my first post as a sort of go-to guide for future purchases. |

Just wanted to reiterate what folks have said above: eOne, StudioCanal and Lionsgate are the pits when it comes to banding. Network's recent reissue of Capricorn One also had much worse banding than the old ITV disc, so I hope that's not an indication that Network's encoding is also going down the gurgler.

I had a look at 12 Years a Slave (eOne release) and it appears to be ok, haven't noticed any banding issues thank god but I've only skimmed through a few scenes throughout the film.
I've also noticed banding on some Artificial Eye releases now, recently got Blue is the Warmest Colour which got 5 stars here for video quality and although it generally looks great, in darker interior scenes there is quite a bit of visible banding, with one moment being horrendously bad. It's getting really frustrating because there's no need for there to be any if the people involved would just do the encode properly. It doesn't appear connected to bit rates necessarily so I'd love to know what exactly they are doing wrong. Meh, first world problems! ![]() |
