Who's putting this out? A soundtrack CD is appealing but there's no mention of the B&W and slightly extended color version both being included. I have the Arrow release and it's excellent, one of my favorite Blu-rays.

The description of supplements looks identical to the Arrow release, so I would bet it has the colorized version too.

Definitely not Arrow. It's self-published. According to a page on MVD it's published by Elfo Media Corp which is registered to Richard Elfman

Contents:

Quote:
Bonus Materials

Audio commentary with director Richard Elfman and writer-actor Matthew Bright
A Look into Forbidden Zone - extensive behind the scenes documentary featuring interviews and archive footage, including scenes from Elfman's lost film The Hercules Family
Outtakes and Deleted Scenes
Original Theatrical Trailer

Sales Points

Contains Black and White and Color transfers of the film
Starring Herve Villechaise (Fantasy Island) and Susan Tyrell (Fat City, Cry-Baby)
The page of the Blu-ray-only edition page lists stereo sound, while the page of the edition with bonus CD lists 5.1 surround sound. I'm gonna assume it contains both. Seems it doesn't contain everything from the Arrow release.

It says right on the listing that it is ARROW! It will be the same BD as the Arrow UK version, except it includes the soundtrack CD. Look at this:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Forbi...lu-ray/126369/

Will be getting this even though I have the UK BD... I have been after the soundtrack on CD forever! It's hard to get.

Amazon has posted wrong info before. According to the US distributor it's not being released by Arrow.

So, Arrow has four releases (CD, DVD, BD, and a BD+CD) then?

Ignore the fact that the director Richard Elfman went through all the trouble to regain all rights and control over Forbidden Zone, set up his own company from which he can self-publish the DVD and Blu-ray and that he had sued a company in England which very likely is Arrow. There's a chance he is not on good terms with Arrow.

I never heard about that, I was under the impression that he approved the Arrow release... why did he sue a UK company?

He wanted to release Forbidden Zone on DVD, but he couldn't find all original materials. According to his posts on the Indiegogo page for Forbidden Zone 2 some of the original materials were in the UK and getting those materials proved to be a bit of a problem so he sued the company that had the materials. The problem got settled. He didn't say which company in the UK. It could be Arrow or it could be a whole different party, but I honestly can't think of another party in the UK that could be involved somehow other than Arrow.

Ironic that MVD is putting this out and not Arrow since the 2 have a distributing deal.

I've already got the Arrow release, but the soundtrack CD is tempting...

Thanx for the info... Maybe this won't be Arrow. Who knows. We'll see in time, I guess.

Did anybody pick up either edition of this? Thoughts? Got a decent review on this site, but i thought I'd check before buying.

I hadn't heard of this film until very recently, but what makes this such a cult film? And what are the ethnic stereotypes everyone keep talking about for this film?

I watched this last night for the first time in probably 15 years. I thought it looked and sounded great - certainly compared to the VHS I rented back in the day. I'd forgotten how weird the movie is. Just this big explosion of that handmade-feeling, irreverent, subversive 80s creativity that I miss so much. Soundtrack is excellent too. Glad I got the "ultimate edition" with the disc. (It was actually cheaper for whatever reason.)

It's kind of like a live action cartoon with a mostly nonsensical plot, and I think the cult comes from that unconventionality combined with it being enjoyable. I guess it came together because of live shows Oingo Boingo was doing back in the day and they took a lot of those bits and made them into a weird movie. Not for everybody, but if you like weird stuff, you'll probably dig it. The ethnic stereotypes stuff is that kind of counter-cultural irreverence common to the 80s and 90s where people would just joke about old and existing stereotypes. It's all humorous bad taste-y stuff. If you're sensitive to the usual "problematic" things in old media, you could probably just avoid this one.

Anyone know if this new version^ is different than the existing ones?:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Forbi...Blu-ray/60841/
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Forbi...lu-ray/126369/

I forget why but I currently own this one even though I'm in the United States. There must have been a reason I got this one specifically but I forget:
