Default Tim Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND 3-D

Yup, Johnny Depp is rumored now to play The Mad Hatter. How awesome is that?!

Quote:
According to England’s The Sun, Johnny Depp will be playing The Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s 3-D adaptation of the original Alice In Wonderland, which sounds freaking awesome, so we’re hoping for some sort of actual word from Disney about it.

Until then, we have to put up with the damn “unnamed source” gossip rumors:
“Tim has had designs on Alice In Wonderland since before he was famous.
“He has a knack for turning what seem like stories for just kids into gripping, spooky fables loved just as much by adults.
“He’s held out on doing Alice till he got a big enough budget. Now this film is financed by Disney so money won’t be a problem.”
Mia Wasikowska has been cast as Alice

Agree about McGee... wasn't that in the pipe-line for a movie?

Burton really screwed the pooch on Willy Wonka, so I'm not too sure about Alice in Wonderland fairing any better. He is a brilliant director, but he went too far with that film.

I agree, curious to see if its good, but i would think that Johnny Depp as Mad Hatter would be great. Funny, i live in the city where the "Mad Hatters" were made famous, interesting dont you think, lol

I hope to God that if Johnny Depp is the Mad Hatter that they don't make him act as dumb as he did in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Hope gratuitously-cast Depp doesn't turn it into another gratuitously twitchy Edward Scissorhatter--
And might want to take a few cues from Andre Gregory (of "My Dinner With.." fame)'s Very Mad Hatter, from the 1983 PBS version.

Love Depp & this sounds like a great story for a Burton adaptation... and yet I'm somehow growing tired of Depp playing the offbeat wacko in these kinds of movies.

Huh, maybe it's just me.

According to wikipedia, the movie is now over at Universal and it fresh for another rewrite. That's too bad since it will probably be buried. Check out the trailer for the video game:

...Oh, dear gods.
(If there is one Pandora's ill we must expunge from this earth, it's "cute, kid-friendly" Irwin Allen...60's "Lost in Space" was our first warning, and the Drew Barrymore/Keanu Reeves "Babes in Toyland" was our own fault for not heeding it.)

Despite the pointlessly time-filler "whimsical" musical numbers, THE definitive text-faithful/non-Disney live-action version of Alice is still considered to be the 1972 British version.
(Although I'll give the Disney animated version props for finally making Alice the funny/frustrated focus of the humor, instead of just the thankless straight-foil of the book.)

I heard the McGee version was looking at Sara Michelle Geller as Alice..taking place right after The Looking Glass...Alice stuck in a Sanitarium...gawd that would have been awesome....
