I only just learnt yesterday that the Australian DVD releases featured a different edited version of the film compared to other globally released DVDs. I've only ever seen the Aussie DVD release and despite all the bad reviews of the film in general, I quite enjoyed it. Is it possible that the Aussie cut is a huge improvement which a lot of reviewers out there have neglected to see?

^ According to a comment underneath that workprint vs dvd comparison, these are the differences: Just a heads-up, you can actually purchase a finished, early version of the film in Australia. Here is my rudimentary listing for the differences: AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN PARIS Region 1 (Theatrical) vs Region 4 (Early Cut) Time codes are for R1. R1 vs R4... 0:00:00 Hollywood logo vs J&M logo. 0:03:33 Rock song vs No song. 0:05:35 Rock song continued vs Score. 0:06:13 Rock song vs Score continued. 0:13:12 Rock song vs Different song. 0:18:32 Song vs Different song. 0:26:00 Song “Mouth” vs Different song. 0:28:13 Song vs Different song. 0:29:33 Song vs Different song. 0:32:00 Song vs Different song. 0:38:30 Song vs No song. 0:44:48 Song “Mouth” vs Score. 0:45:35 Different voice actor for Inspector Leduc. (R4 is original voice.) 0:45:55 Different voice actor for Chief Bonnet (R4 is original voice.) 0:48:00 Song vs Different song. 0:52:37 Song “Mouth” vs Score. 0:53:15 Song “Mouth” continued vs Different song. 0:58:22 - Extra scene in R4, Andy’s friend Chris is chained up. Gang “blooding” the bouncer. Coroner opens two wrong slabs before getting to Amy. (Just a hand on the slab, then a foot.) 0:58:38 Extra stuff with Leduc on R4 0:59:16 - Extra footage R4. “Oh, is that a fact, Mr Freakshow?” “Yeah, that’s a fact.” 0:59:18 - Extra footage R4. More sarcastic back and forth. 0:59:48 - R4 more dialog, “Lock him up (Alt) And that’s an order!” 1:00:00 - Extra footage R4. Andy escapes hospital wearing lab-coat and goggles/mask. 1:00:57 - Extra beat R4, “Do you understand me? He ate my spleen.” 1:01:35 - Extra scenes, R4. Explanation of werewolf bloodline, picture in stained glass, mention of traveller killed in London. His daughter born in Paris. Serafine. Mentions of gang’s “purity” manifesto. 1:02:44 - Extra footage. Andy gets ten seconds to “think it over” Andy decides, “Sure. Why not? Sounds like a lot of fun.” 1:03:07 - Extra R4 Claude, “Savour the release you give him from all his suffering. His inferiority.” 1:03:42 - Extra beat R4, Andy pauses a moment longer. 1:07:12 Extra footage R4, Serafine “He was so close to a cure. Certain of it. If he doesn’t come out of the coma...” 1:07:22 - Extra beat R4, “Andy, you’re hurt.” and also, “It’s just a scratch.” 1:07:55 R4 One extra shot of Andy taking his pants off. 1:08:01 Rock song vs score. 1:08:25 R4 Extra beat of Claude running down stairs. 1:08:34 R4 Extra beat of Andy running. 1:08:43 - Extra R4 beat Andy looking toward gang. 1:09:20 Song vs score 1:09:28 Extra R4. Andy sees Amy in back seat of car. 1:09:49 Extra R4. Amy stops Andy, Andy tells Amy to go to hell. She starts to smoke. “Oh my God. I’m being cremated.” She screams and runs away. 1:10:51 Extra R4. Andy, “I got an ‘A’ in chemistry.” 1:11:54 Song vs different song. 1:15:44 Score, segues to song/score. 1:19:50 Extra on R4 “Stop them!” 1:30:46 Extra on R4. Serafine (in ambulance) tries to pull IV out, her stepfather’s ghost stops her. Tells her that he found the permanent cure. Has instructions for her to follow. She says, “Daddy, you’re wonderful.” R1, Serafine says, “Andy, you’re wonderful.” It has the "baby" alternate ending, but the eyes are animated differently from the workprint. Mostly "cosmetic" differences and slight additions. And the baby ending didn't look that great in the above link. I doubt it would cause anyone to change their mind but it is kinda interesting that an alternate version exists. ![]() Last edited by SymbioticFunction; 03-05-2015 at 03:12 AM. |

Does anyone know where I can get a hold of a copy of the workprint, or view the clips of the different scenes... Mainly interested in Claude's speech talking about the werewolf bloodline and the last being killed in London and the alternative ending.
Any help appreciated, thanks! |

^ Honestly, I think Mill Creek is probably the best we can hope for here. And I'd take it.
Maybe LionsGate, since they got a big chunk of the Miramax catalog? But considering all the great stuff they're sitting on, I doubt they're interested. |

A so-so film for the most part, a lot more comedic than the original. |
