Default Sony announces first HD-optimized A/V receiver

http://dvd.themanroom.com/dvd-newsview.php?id=0126

From the article:

Quote:
Sony today officially announced the STR-DG1000, their first high-definition compatible A/V receiver designed with Blu-ray Disc in mind, will retail around $800 in August through Sony's online store.
Maybe I should wait for the Sony BD player in August and pick this up at the same time.

Has Sony figured out how to make a decent A/V receiver yet?

They really do get slammed by a lot of people for their lousy performance and poor acoustics with their receivers. I know that I recently replaced one in my bosses house with a Denon and the lesser expensive Denon really sounds a lot better than the ES series Sony that was there.

I wish they would address HD audio formats more as HDMI 1.3 doesn't seem to have been finalized... has it? So, all analog from Blu-ray player to receiver to speakers? How do they do it? Firewire? Very little info and I'm not aware of 7.1 outputs on any Blu-ray players at this time.

Always want more info though!

I think it can play HD-DVD sources as well.

It has all kind of different inputs like HDMI.

Dolby HD is software, and a receiver will play this, together with Dolby Digital etc. The receiver will play from any kind of source that gives a Dolby signal, DVD's, HD-DVD's, Blu-ray and such.

That's what I think.
