Question Stargate [1994] - Another possible recode for UK...?

Well I just noticed that the original Stargate [Special Edition] is also being released in the UK on the 4th August.

Along with Terminator 2 Directors Cut, Total Recall, Escape from New York, They Live and now Stargate [1994] S.E.

These are all being handled in Europe by Optimum Home Entertainment

Actors: Kurt Russell, Djimon Hounsou, James Spader, Jaye Davidson, Viveca Lindfors
Directors: Roland Emmerich
Format: PAL
Number of discs: 1
Classification: PG
Studio: Optimum Home Entertainment
DVD Release Date: 4 Aug 2008
Run Time: 125 minutes

New person here. According to the website dvdtimes.co.uk (link http://dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=67905) the stargate movie is going to be on a dual layer disk (BD50), encoded in H264 1080p with DTS-HD MA audio

The HD DVDs I got from Optimum Home Entertainment (studio canal) have been in their original speed and not the PAL speed ups. I seen alot of covers in the UK state the pal speed but are not. Also I did do a reply but it seems to not got posted the UK version of stargate the movie is suppose to be on a dual layer disk (BD50), video encoded in H264 1080p and DTS-HD MA audio

I watched the UK release of Stargate last night. It's an AVC 1080p encode, running at 24fps. Duration is 2:09:55 (not the 126 minutes stated on the packaging). Audio is 5.1 DTS-HD MA.

The video encode is excellent. I'm generally very picky about video encodes, but I would be amazed if anyone is unhappy with this one. It's clean, crisp and detailed. A few low light scenes have a lot of grain, but this is surely an issue with the source material for those scenes rather than a problem with the encode.

I got mine on the 1st of august. I am usually pickey with codecs on for the next gen format (VC1 or H264 only).

I seen the BD25 MPEG2 version from the US and the BD50 AVC UK version was better. (A friend of mine brought his US PS3 round to do some comparisions as well which I though was interesting)

The downside for me was the audio track.

The US was 6.1 DTS-HD High resolution track and was 3039kbps (using powerdvd to check, oddly my reciver was displaying it as 7.1 and comming out all the speakers) and the UK 5.1 DTS-HD-MA (averaging arround 2Mbps but peaked at 3Mbps leaving my side two speakers quite).

Splits two ways better picture but less channels with the audio or worse picture and more audio channels. Realy just wish we got a 6.1 / 7.1 sound track to go with it.

Also on a few UK blu-rays I seen the PAL runtimes listed instead of the correct runtimes. To me it seems some just copy the information of the PAL DVD.

Thanks for the info. I've decided to give the UK version a shot. Just wish I would have chosen priority shipping since who knows how long it'll take with the standard shipping.

If your 2 side speakers are quiet, that's your own fault. You're not supposed to use a 6.1 setup on 5.1 encoded discs. I used to do that an all the effects fell to the back speaker unless it was specifically encoded in 6.1

Can you still see the wires on the attack gliders, or have they been digitally removed?

Ok I should of been a bit more clearer. I have a 7.1 speaker setup not 5.1.

I own the UK disk which was encoded 5.1 so I get audio out the rare speakers and front but not the side.

My friend has the US disk which was encoded in 6.1 audio.

My reciver when it was outputted through his PS3 reported it his 6.1 audio track as 7.1 And all my speakers had sound comming out of them.
