One of those films that's so bad it's just bad - and nigh-on unwatchable. Is there really that much of a market for films with Henry Silva in a Diana Ross fright wig?

It's too bad they didn't release it with King Solomon's Mines, which is the better of the two. Both coming from MGM, I'm sure Olive would be able to license it.

I enjoy this type of adventure film so it'll be in my collection... eventually. I do agree King Solomon's Mines is the better of the two but Lost City of Gold has its charms haha.

Seems odd that they would release one without the other. They were filmed back to back. Maybe they'll announce KSM in a day or two. I remember when I was a kid we used to get free posters from the local video store and I had this one on my wall for ages, even though the film was a horrible Indy rip-off. I remember later when Basic Instinct came out, I was like "Holy sh*t, it's that chick from Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold!"

Maybe MGM haven't got round to doing an HD master of the first yet? Which admittedly seems odd, since it gets the more TV play of the two.

This is the film where Sharon Stone so pissed off the crew that they pissed in the bathwater for her bath scene...

Ok seriously, is Olive just trolling us now! How the hell are you going to release this and NOT King Solomon's Mines!! Are they taking the Shout Factory approach here?

Either way, without further ado....

Agreed! That's incredibly random. King Solomon's Mines is a guilty pleasure, but this one, it's hard to justify. The climax at the "City of Gold" is so weak. The first one tried to at least deliver the action goods.

I'm down for this! Yeah KSM was better, but I enjoyed this movie just as much. If buying it, helps support the cause for KSM....I'll do it!

Having just watched both of the Allan Quatermain films back-to-back for the first time, I don't get the hate for the sequel. It's pretty much the same the silly, light-weight adventure as the first film. I'm surprised to find that there are people who like the one, but dislike the other.

Either way, I can't wait to pick this one up. I really hope that we get the first film soon as well.

Based on the site review, this sounds like another underwhelming release from Olive Films.

Really disappointing.

I have a lost of nostalgia for this one and was hoping it'd at least have a nice A/V presentation.

Still going to be adding this one to the collecting since it's likely the best we'll get for this sequel.

One interesting thing about this movie, is the score is composed by Michael Linn, instead of Jerry Goldsmith. Michael Linn of American Ninja fame. If you know American Ninja pretty well, you know Linn's score is very distinctive. Bombastic even. I've always loved it. Thought it gave the American Ninja a very cool theme that was sadly never reprised in any of the sequels.

So, I'm watching Allan Quatermain some years ago, and it strikes me, hey, I know that music. There are lot of cues in this that are very similar to ones he composed for American Ninja. There are even parts in this that use cues from George S. Clinton's Avenging Force. Cannon recycled music from other films a lot in their action flicks.

Much of the score is just very clumsy re-edits of Goldsmith's score for KSM. He was originally going to come back for the second film but when Cannon cut the budget for the entire film (reportedly by a mere 75%) they went with the cheaper option.

Yeah, you're right. Much of it is just re-used Jerry Goldsmith stuff. I guess Linn didn't have to do much. In the scenes that he did write music for, that American Ninja sorta style of his is very recognizable.

They are also releasing Lost City of Gold also, which hopefully would be in stereo this time (unlike Olives release)
