Default Scorcese/Jamie Foxx to team up on MIKE TYSON biopic.

Per Jamie Foxx himself...

Quote:
Martin Scorsese to Direct Jamie Foxx in Mike Tyson biopic.

Jamie Foxx went on Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club morning show today, and dropped a most unexpected bombshell: Martin Scorsese will direct him in the long-gestating Mike Tyson biopic.

This is surprising because Scorsese has a number of films in development, and it was thought that he would move on to SINATRA after he finished his currently-shooting passion project, SILENCE (expected to be released in 2016). But it sounds like Foxx's Tyson film is set up and ready to go at Paramount, so this will likely be Scorsese's next movie - and, most intriguingly, his first boxing flick since RAGING BULL. With Terence Winter (BOARDWALK EMPIRE and WOLF OF WALL STREET) writing the script, perhaps we should've seen this coming; personally, I was hoping Foxx would get Spike Lee onboard, but maybe he didn't want to tempt fate after the failure of Spike's Tyson show for HBO.

As for how the forty-seven-year-old intends to depict the life story of the forty-eight-year-old former heavyweight champion, your guess is as good as mine. But with Scorsese attached, I can't wait to find out.

Here's the radio interview.

Not sure how this would work, seeing as they noted Foxx's age Now, & Tyson was TYSON when he was what, barely 21 or so?

HBOs Tyson movie was enough. No purpose whatsoever for another. Especially with Jaime Foxx. It will probably just be another SNLesque impersination like his Ray Charles.

Wish Scorsese would do something else. Also odd casting (age).

Well, if you've heard Jamie do his Mike Tyson, it's pretty spot on. But yea, at his age Now (47), I don't know how (or if?) they'll be able to show him fighting in his prime. Maybe the story will take place after his career, but that would make no sense; who would want to see That movie?

Yea, I agree. 10-15 yrs ago maybe, but how's Foxx gonna pull off Tyson in his early 20's?

You kidding me? Foxx completely transformed in that movie. Not only did he have the voice/singing down, but he performed EVERYTHING himself while blind. It was beyond mere impersonation.

Not at all. The movie was one of the most bland, formulaic biopics ever and Foxx was terrible in it. Like he is in everything.

The movie is decent, but not great. However Foxx's performance brings the movie to another level, there is nothing terrible about his performance. He became Ray Charles. Not only does he resemble him, but he got his mannerisms down perfectly along with his voice, singing style, and as I mentioned before....he was blind his whole performance. He couldn't see through those sunglasses, he had to learn to be blind. If someone embodies a character that well, how can it be a terrible performance?

Don't engage him; he obviously abhors the movie which Most others LOVED, or thoroughly enjoyed. I mean, obviously Jamie was terrible in the movie; as everyone Else won EVERY MAJOR/MINOR AWARD for Best Actor that year...

I'm pretty sure he can make this a great movie. Just not sure Mr. Foxx is the right choice for it Now, at his age. Who knows, he could prove me (or us all), wrong.

But yea, I love most movies Marty does, except this looks like a snooze fest.

I'm not too worried about his age since he doesn't look his age. Now he doesn't look like he's in his 20's when Tyson was in his prime, but he doesn't look 47 either. Besides, Robert De Niro was in his late 30's when played a much younger Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull, and we all know how that turned out. I definitely think it's within the realm of believability.

I'm not so much worried about Foxx's age but his build is another matter. Sure, Will Smith was able to sell Ali pretty well but Tyson in his prime was pretty massive. He wasn't just ripped, he was huge and stocky and very physically intimidating.

Then again, if he's not in the ring all that much it might be an easier sell.

Exactly. For all we know this may not even happen. Scorsese is like Spielberg. It's crazy how many times he's been attached to a project only to subsequently delay or leave the project altogether just a few months down the line. Supposedly we were getting another mobster epic with Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci, yet here we are waiting.

If Foxx could get back to his size like he was in Any Given Sunday, it would be pretty close. Not quite there, but close.
