Default will ps3 ever do anything with netflix?

I know that Netflix is hooking up with Xbox 360 now for their ''Play now" feature but I just wanted to know if this was exclusive to just the Xbox or if there was any sort of chance that PS3 can get the same deal.... I am a netflix subscriber for about 3 years now and was almost thinkin about cancelling soon since I leave the same 4 dvds laying around in my house for over a week...but if they had a nice easy feature like that for the ps3 I think I would end up stickin with em... let me know what you think guys. thankz

As far as I know it is exclusive to the 360.

From what I heard it is exclusive to the 360. M$ out bid Sony for the rights. All of us that own a PS3 can hope for is that the exclusive rights end after a year or 2 then Sony can rebid and hopefully win this time.

I called Netflix to ask about this when I first read the article and the customer service rep told me that even though MS has the exclusive agreement, it wasn't a permanent one. Of course, she didn't know for how long it was. She also read to me that Netflix has plans to make streaming available to other hardware manufacturers as well.

I also saw that LG just announced they are coming out with a BD player that can stream Netflix, so maybe MS is the only game console with it.

I was under the impression from the original Netflix announcement about the Roku box, they were going to license the technology to any hardware manufacturer willing to pay. It's kind of frustrating that they would sell the exclusive console rights to Microsoft and basically go against their earlier statements.

Personally, I'd be happier if Sony made a move to partner with Amazon's Unbox now that Amazon has made that into a streaming service. The Unbox video selection is much better than the pathetic selection currently available via Sony's store. Yes, I realize the PSN Video store is only a couple weeks old but the selection kind of blows. And what's funny is that Sony is one of the studios that has the least amount of content available along with the least amount of options, almost all of it is SD content for purchase, no SD or HD rentals on almost all Sony content. Worse, is that exclusive anime show they are renting for a ridiculous $5.99 an episode. Top that with Sony's piss poor terms of usage where you can't re-download video content at a later date meaning you're stuck with any purchased content taking up precious space on the hard drive. The PSP transfer ability is interesting, but the price per gigabyte cost of Memory Sticks means unless you're willing to plunk down big money, you won't be able to put more than a few videos on the system (Sony really needs to put out a model with an internal hard drive, maybe ditching the UMD drive in the process and move the PSP to a download only model).

considering they already have a video store to rent/purchase movies from, i dont think theyd be up to it.

although a partnership with netflix/amazon unbox would be an astounding idea, its going to take some time to get that to work. unless they directly integrate it with the psn video store in the back office/programming end, without us knowing it.

the only challenge i see is that the psn store seems to just output 2 channel, which kinda sucks...

the roku box mentioned by the way would output standard definition, and your video quality is based on your internet connection. they are tho going to have hd material soon, but i dont know about any bandwidth challenges they might have for a 1080p movie. we could probably see 720p as the norm/choice of weapon.

Sony should work on getting exclusive deals with Amazon and Blockbuster to try and get some kind of streaming content for the ps3.

i guess we just have to hope it ends after a year or so... haha. my ps3 would be used almost 24-7 if I could stream netflix movies.

as already said.... with the PS3 with its own video rental service... you could probably bet your life on netflix not coming to the ps3

Just downloaded Dancing with Wolves on HD from the store. It looks TERRIBLE, audio is a joke at best and the picture is 5-10.

Blu ray has NOTHING to worry about concerning downloads.. I hope Netflix has nothing to do with the PS3 or any downloaded movie content if it looks that bad.

im going to check out wargames, the gf has never seen it. better get downloading right when i get home though, so its ready by the time she comes over.

downloads are such a joke. i just want to see what its like. i have my doubts though if HD dl > DVD upconversion

From that one movie experience, HD dl = SD DVD / DVD upconversion > HD DL.

I don't get it either because when you download trailers from the PS3 game section they look awesome. 1080p awesome.

BTW it took me hours to dl DWW...

I have no plans whatsoever after the DWW experience to not even come close to renting another movie.

If microsoft thinks DL's are the future..

I remember something a while back (maybe 6-9 months) about netflix doing some kind of a special disc that could be run to access watch now. not Sony doing anything specifically, but that netflix themselves would create a "game" disc to allow the service to work. ie, put in the game, it loads up to a watch now queue, click play.

now this was a LONG time back in this whole cycle AND i've heard nothing new about it since it was first mentioned, but thought it would be a great idea. i think they said it would be like a one-time $5 fee to get the disc? anyway...it hasn't come about and seemingly won't. not that i'm too worried....i'm just waiting till they actually bump the price of blu-ray rentals up and i'm cancelling service that day in protest. i hardly ever use the service now since i buy anything i wanna see anyway.
