Thumbs up LG BD300 Network Blu-ray Player Interfaces With Netflix.

Quote:
LG has officially announced their upcoming release of the BD300 Network Blu-ray player. A step that is surely aimed at creating a bridge between movie downloads and hardware players, the BD300 will interface with Netflix. The player will be able to link to your Netflix account and access movies stored in your user queue and begin streaming them directly to your HDTV. The player will require a wired broadband connection.

The user will be able to access more than 12,000 titles in the Netflix library, including movies and TV shows. There is no word on whether you will be able to stream movies in full 1080p resolution. Our guess is you will not be able to as it probably would be highlighted in the announcement.

The player will also upconvert SD DVD to 1080p and of course play Blu-ray discs. The BD300 should be Profile 2.0 as it will be able to play BD-Live material.

With downloading and streaming becoming more and more popular, this player might just be what is needed to bridge the gap. Pricing is currently unavailable, but the player will be available this fall.

Building on a groundbreaking technology partnership announced earlier this year, LG Electronics and Netflix, Inc. today announced plans for the first Blu-ray disc player that will have the added benefit of being able to instantly stream a growing library of movies and TV episodes from Netflix directly to the TV.

Available this fall, the LG BD300 Network Blu-ray Disc Player will play high definition Blu-ray discs, up-convert standard DVDs to 1080p and allow Netflix subscribers to instantly stream more than 12,000 choices of movies and TV episodes from Netflix to the TV for no additional charge.

LG Electronics and Netflix will demonstrate the BD300 Network Blu-ray Disc Player for the first time tonight at LG's 2008 Summer Line Show at Morgan Library and Museum in New York City. (The event is open to invited media only.)

Instantly streaming content from Netflix to the TV via the LG BD300 Network Blu-ray Disc Player will rely on a wired broadband connection and Queue-based user interface. Netflix members will use the Netflix Web site to add movies and TV episodes to their individual instant Queues. Those choices will automatically be displayed on members' TVs and available to
watch instantly through the LG player. Once selected, movies will begin playing in as little as 30 seconds. With the BD300's accompanying remote control, Netflix members will be able to browse and make selections right on the TV screen and also have the ability to read synopses and rate movies. In addition, they will have the option of fast-forwarding and rewinding the video stream.

This player will probably be a front runner for my main player when I get a house (and do an entertainment room) early next year.

The Netflix streaming will be a nice plus; especially, if they are able to stream HD quality. And while I will have the functionality already with my 360, I rather not use it (Xbox 360) for movie playback.

Bumping this thread. Saw an ad for it in the newest Sound and Vision that came. This is enough to make me sell my PS3 for this. Bitstreaming and Netflix Anyone have one of these or tried it out that can offer their thoughts?

Just read in the manual it will play music/pictures off of a USB thumb drive or hard drive.

I may definitely sell the PS3 for this.

The Samsung BD-P2500 and BD-P2550(Best Buy exclusive model) also now offer Netflix movie streaming(for those that have Netflix subscriptions of course)and satellite radio streaming. The first firmware upgrade added these features to both BluRay players. The BD-P1500 isn't capable of being upgraded to include either new feature and therefore won't be receiving them.

The Netflix streaming is easy to use and the players automaticly display the proper aspect ratios depending on that of the tv show or movie being streamed to the player from Netflix. The clarity and color of the streamign media is exceptional.

Thumbs down

Can anyone help me out by confirming that the DSL connection setup in this player will allow for a router with a password set? I'm using a wireless router/wired hub combo to connect this. Don't really plan to unpack this an hook up until Christmas, but want to make sure that's not going to be a limiting factor.

LG's online chat help said "yes", but wasn't terribly certain about it.

I just got one of these from Circuit City, after giving up on Amazon ever actually stocking them......

Thanks!
