Thumbs up Monsters University

I usually try not to post too many rumor threads, but this one is too good to pass by! I would love to see a sequel to Monster's Inc. (My favorite Pixar movie to date)

Oh what a wonderful day! Pixar is one of the few production companies that can actually make great sequels. Well, they've only ever made one (Toy Story 2), but it was pretty damn good I'd say? MTV caught up with Pete Docter, who wrote and directed Monsters, Inc., at Comic-Con and asked him about the potential for a sequel. His answer: "We've thought about it… We've got a couple ideas." Of course they've got ideas, but does that mean they'll ever see the light of day? MTV followed up with Docter yet again, and his response this time was a nervous "I can neither confirm nor deny." Cryptic answer or just more fan speculation? I'd love to see a Monsters, Inc. sequel probably more than a sequel to any other Pixar movie (even Toy Story)! So let's just hope there is actually some truth to this rumor.

Unfortunately over the seven years since Monsters, Inc. first arrived, Pixar (and anyone working there) has consistently denied any truth to Monsters, Inc. sequel rumors. They insisted that they were not in the business of making sequels, with Toy Story being the one and only exception. And the sad truth of the matter is that almost all of Pixar's movies have been so amazing that I'd love to see a sequel of any of them, especially Monsters, Inc. Alas, here we are, seven years later finally hearing some buzz on the matter. And since Pixar officially announced that Cars 2 is in development for in 2012 and Toy Story 3 is in development for 2010, this may mean they've finally broken down and realized that sequels can potentially be as great as originals (and The Dark Knight has only further solidified this).

*sighs* Okay, I loved Monsters, Inc. and I loved Cars, but these films don't really need a sequel. The film that needs a sequel is The Incredibles. Honestly, I don't see why the folks at Pixar haven't thought about pursuing a sequel to The Incredibles.

The Incredibles could spawn off so many sequels with so many different villians. Talk about milking a cash cow. Your right, I am surprised that Disney hasn't thought about it...or have they?

If they have they are taking an awfully long time bringing it to fruition. Seriously, it should have had a sequel out already. The possibilities are endless for it and I'm pretty sure that if they ever do do a sequel, it will be a film that grosses over 300 million.

I could totally dig an Monsters Inc sequel. But I also agree 110% with you guys, the Pixar film I want to see sequelized most is The Incredibles!

Pixar can do no wrong in my eyes. WALL•E is a classic. Cars doesn't get a lot of love but I liked it. Rataouille was great but not there best by any stretch... It was still great though.

So in conclusion....... BRING ON THE SEQUELS PIXAR!!!

Arrow Pixar Confirms Monsters Inc Sequel

Quote:
Disney/Pixar revealed at the licensing fair in Las Vegas that they have yet another sequel in the works. Despite what Brad Bird said on stage at WonderCon two years ago, Pixar is now in the sequel business. Cars 2, Toy Story 3, and now Monsters Inc 2. According to Jim Hill, buyers who attended these limited preview sessions were sworn to secrecy by Disney officials, but several have confirmed that Pete Docter will be following up Up with a sequel to Monsters, Inc.

A Monsters Inc sequel has been rumored for some time now. At Comic-Con 2008, director Pete Docter responded to an audience question about the prospects of a sequel by admitting that “We’ve thought about it… We’ve got a couple ideas.” And now that it is quasi-confirmed, when should we expect to return to Monstropolis? Pixar has announced all their films up until 2012, so could a Monsters Inc sequel be in store for 2013?

Pixar fansite The Pixar Blog started receiving strange searches this past January for variations of “‘monsters 2013 pixar”. The interesting thing about the searches is that they were coming from inside Pixar, from the Pixar.com domain. I know, circumstantial at best. But now that we know a sequel is definitely in the works, it seems a bit more likely that it’s being groomed for a 2013 release.

Maybe this is why the U.S. Blu-ray release of Monster's Inc. was delayed in such an out-of-the-blue manner? I hope that they do not push back the Blu release until just before the sequel!

I would prefer original (new) stuff. I'd hate to see PIXAR turn into a typical studio that re-hashes old stuff. Darn...I can't believe I just said that.

I agree to a certain point. But I did enjoy seeing the familiarity of character in Toy Story 2. So I am really looking forward to Toy Story 3. Some Pixar films (Cars for example) do not need a sequel. One was enough of that.

They're making it sound like "their" idea, but like Toy Story 3, a MI sequel was the other "Circle 7" production Disney was trying to bluff Pixar with--
Back during the days when Disney threatened to make their own Pixar sequels on character-marketing rights, to "prove" how much they didn't need ungrateful ol' Pixar...
Fortunately, the war was over before production teams could come to blows, but John Lasseter still kept all of Disney's proposed sequel title-rights, and kept them as options for Pixar, so no other nasty impostors would get their hands on them.

They had a plot standing by for TS3 and we're getting that, but all they had was a title and what-if for Monsters2, so they're just blue-skying it for now.

Why not? The only Pixar sequel thus far is Toy Story 2 and that one was great.

Until Pixar starts giving a string of duds, I'm not gonna complain about anything they do.
