I watched the BluRay of The Elephant Man the other night, and having seen the film several times before I know it pretty well.
For example, I remember a short piece at the start, part of a montage of the London of the period, in which we see smoke-stacks billowing smoke. I remember it because in the DVD the contrast is rather high and there is a black foggy border around the chimneys, the kind of artifact you get when processing black-and-white film if you over-process it. In the Blu Ray that shot is missing. Is it common practice to remove certain scenes from films when transferring them to BluRay? |

In general though, no, movies are not edited especially for blu-ray. Different video releases over the years may have edits made to them for one reason or another though. Some "Director's Cut"s or Special Editions made of a given movie may contain different edits of a film, but that has nothing to do with the particular home video format. |

Anyway, my disc is one of "The Studio Canal Collection". I can't see if it's exclusively UK release or not. I'm in Australia. Thanks for your reply, Suntory. |

Thanks for the link. I should have realised there would be a thread for every blu ray movie, here. I have a supplementary question, which I'll ask at that other thread. Thanks. |
