Default Roar (Noel Marshall)

Roar Blu-ray PRE-ORDER

Coming to Blu-ray on October 6. Courtesy of Olive Films.

Theatrical re-release announcement/TRAILER:

NEWS
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=16246

Quote:
Last month, Drafthouse Films and Olive Films announced that they have partnered to bring back to U.S. theaters Noel Marshall's sole––and career-derailing––directorial effort, the notorious 1981 family affair with big cats, Roar. Now, the distributors have sent us the official rerelease trailer, which is included with this announcement.

The film will have a limited theatrical release across the U.S. this spring and will be available on Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand platforms later this summer.

Synopsis: An unprecedented––and wholly unpredictable––action-adventure, Roar follows wildlife preservationist Hank (The Exorcist producer Noel Marshall in his sole and career-derailing turn as an actor and director), who lives harmoniously alongside a menagerie of untamed animals, including cheetahs, elephants, lions and tigers on a preservation in the African plains. When his wife and children arrive (real-life wife Tippi Hedren, The Birds, and step-daughter Melanie Griffith, Working Girl) for a visit, a long-brewing battle for dominance between two lions erupts and threatens their very lives.

This is going to be playing at a theatre near me during its re-release, and after showing the trailer to several friends, we've agreed that this is our most anticipated film of the spring/summer. It looks completely insane.

Here's an embedded trailer:

I've never seen this film, but it really does look interesting. I might just have to pick this up as a blind buy and support Olive Films as well.

This looks pretty amazing. I'm in for the cast and the premise.

Savage Harvest (1981) may not ever see the light of day on Blu-ray due to song rights, but Roar sounds like a solid flick along those lines.

Go in with low expectations, this is an obscure film for a very good reason. I found it virtually impossible to get through. Just because the conditions they made the movie under are incredible does nothing to make a film coherent or interesting.

Will be getting this with my Alliance subscription. Can't wait to see it on the big screen too.

EDIT : Apparently this is not part of the Alliance membership. Either way, I'll be picking it up.

Um, it's not a Drafthouse Films release so it's not included in the Alliance subscription. It'll be an Olive Films release, as the op says.

This is precisely the vibe I get from this movie.

It's true that there are box office disappointments that turn out to be overlooked gems, like John Carpenter's 'The Thing'.

I just don't get the feeling that this is one of those movies.

+1.

I've been highly recommended a whole lot of things that other people loved that I ended up hating. People saying they don't like this one either makes me want to check it out even more. Oftentimes, those are the films that I enjoy the most.

I saw this first time round and it's actually pretty dull. There's no real plot, just a kind of Brady Bunch with lions (imagine an episode where dad forgets to pick up the kids from the airport and forgets to tell them the house is full of lions: for 90 minutes) - but less fun than that sounds. You keep on hoping Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna will come along and tell them they're being very silly and release the lions in the wild.

A film about the making of the film would be much more interesting: here's hoping for a Robert Fischer documentary on the Blu-ray.
