Amazon Amazon Price Drop guarantee question

I bought The Walking Dead Compendium (book) at $29.99 from Amazon (and not a marketplace seller) and it was delivered on April 7. The price dropped to $19.79 (sold by Amazon and not a marketplace seller) over the weekend but I was unable to contact them this weekend as I was busy with family and work.

The price went up to $35.99 today (April 13).

As today is my day off from work, I only got around to contacting Amazon via live chat this morning to see about getting a refund using the Amazon Price Drop guarantee. I thought since the price dropped within the 7 day period of delivery they'd give a refund on the difference ($12.20!).

They wouldn't allow it since I didn't contact them when the price was $19.79. The customer rep said that it is their policy to only give a refund if contacted at the time of the price. And since the price increased today to $35.99 they can get not adjust the price.

I'm a little miffed. I'm a Prime member and place over a hundred orders a year with them. She said her supervisors helped her arrive at the decision and can not go against the Amazon policy.

Was I wrong to think I'd get a refund on this order?
Edit: I was polite the entire chat. I did not get rude or nasty with the customer rep.

Not at all. I would've done the same exact thing. Try contacting a different rep. If that doesn't work, I would write a nice long letter. I'm surprised they didn't allow it. Amazon has been very good to me over the years. Good luck.

Thank you for the suggestion. I think I will try contacting them again to see if I have better luck. I'll come back with an update later.

Thanks again.

They usually won't price match if your order has already shipped which is probably the reason they denied your request.

I got a positive response from Amazon after emailing them the details.

They refunded me the price difference of $10.20 (I mistakenly wrote $12.20 in my OP) plus tax, and in the end actually gave me a few dollars more. Total refund of $14.05.

Thank you Amazon . I have to say this is the first time I ever had an issue with them at all, and in the end they came through for me, and it was pretty painless - a simple email with details to them (after the failed live chat of this morning). It took about 90 minutes for a response from Amazon (which came via email).

And thanks again for the suggestion OI8T12 (Stay thirsty my friend ) On this, my day off from work, I was almost ready to give up on this. Glad I didn't.

Glad to hear it my friend. Amazon has always been very fair to me. Not always in my favor, but very good and fair. I think they have the best customer of any company in the world, at least the one's I have dealt with. I've dealt with a few in my lifetime. I'm glad you didn't give up.

Me too!

And I have to say I really like companies like Amazon that give you the option to live chat with customer service to work through questions and issues.

In the end, after this experience with Amazon, I come away liking the company more and ultimately see myself spending more $$$ there.
