Default Poll: Earlier or Better

Since more and more 3rd party exclusives are becoming merely timed exclusives what do you like more?

To get the game earlier, but not the best version?

To get the game later and get the best version?

Does getting the game earlier but not better come with a patch that will eventually come out to make the improvements?

Isn't this a bit of a false dichotomy?

not really. of course not every timed exclusive falls into these two catagories, but these two seem to be the ones that occur frequently and have some tradeoff.

of course nobody is going to vote for something like The orange box where ps3 gets it later and the version is worse. so i didn't bother making that an option.

i see where your coming from, but thats not the point of this thread.

this situation (later, but better or earlier, but worse) seems to be cropping up more and more and i just wanted to know what ppl prefer.

For me it depends. First of all how long do I have to wait, and what bonuses do I get for waiting?

Waiting 2 years for a little bit of extra DLC is pretty ridiculous to me. Then again, 6 months for a completely upgraded game seems like a pretty good trade off to me.

Is this even a serious question? Later but better. There is plenty in life to do while you wait for something that was delayed to come out--and when it does you will actually enjoy it.

If you are that impatient that you'd rather have a low quality experience sooner, then you either need a life or you need to develop some patience.

Let me give you a scenario: There's this game you're really looking forward to. Your most anticipated game of the year. It's coming out on the Xbox360 and the PS3. We'll call it MGS5 just for fun .
Now the PS3 release date is set for August 31st, 2008.
The 360 release date is set for August 31st, 2010.

The difference between the two is the 360 version gets a little DLC. Say a couple camos or something.

You're telling me that any PS360 owner who buys the PS3 version "Is being impatient and needs a life"?

Seems rather odd to me.

This is a pretty extreme example obviously, but it proves my point. It really depends on each individual situation.

I wish the scenario worked for the orange box. It came out later and we got the inferior version. I dont even notice the slowdown in comparison...Im talking about the lack of 5.1 sound. OB was only in stereo....wtf.

Lost Planet...same thing.

I'd be willing to wait three months for a version that was technically superior to the 360 version, given a chpice.

Ill still end up getting Bioshock (even though I have it on PC) to play on my 54"

This poll is not very specific but if it means later and better as in a better Frames per second and better details in the 3D of games, then by all means yes later and better

You are asking a community filled with audio and video enthusiasts if they would rather have a higher quality product or a speedier product. I expect this poll will be a landslide.

How about "Waiting longer on a completed game while it is being ported to a competitor's platform because they forked over big money so it wouldn't be a timed exclusive?"

Good point.

I'm a casual gamer but I would still prefer a better game that takes a while longer to release.
