USA The Dead Lands (2014) August 9th, 2015

Quote:
After his tribe is slaughtered through an act of treachery, Hongi, a Maori chieftain's teenage son, must avenge his father's murder in order to bring peace and honor to the souls of his loved ones. Vastly outnumbered by a band of villains, Hongi's only hope is to pass through the feared and forbidden Dead Lands and forge an uneasy alliance with the mysterious Warrior, a ruthless fighter who has ruled the area for years.
Apocalypto is the obvious comparison, though this looks much lower budget. The fights look brutal, and the indie spirit is with it. I'm in.

I submitted the new entry and release date to blu-ray.com, so it should show up soon. Obviously the release date is weird, so I don't entirely trust it, but here is my exchange with Magnet:

Thank you for your interest. THE DEAD LANDS will release on DVD & Blu-ray August 9th.

I went ahead and pre-ordered this blind. I'll stick with it too, as long as it drops to something like $22 or so before release.

Same here; at $12.99, it's reasonable, and the reviews look good.

Anyone else experiencing audio dropouts on the lossless track (domestic release), which starts right at the film's opening? The volume and channel indicator lights on my Yamaha AVR were flickering as well while it was happening. Anyways, this occurred on my Panny 360 player, which has the latest updates. However, no issues when played on my (region-free) Seiki BD player ... haven't tried my Oppo yet.

Just watched this, and unfortunately found it significantly less compelling and immersive than that other indigenous-set period piece, 'Apocalyto', which clearly benefitted from superior storytelling, characters, visuals, a much larger scale and budget, and lastly, an experienced and visionary (if not controversial) director in 'Mad Mel'.
