Of the films I've seen of his, they've all been quite awesome.
The Fifth Element has been a favorite of mine for years, since high school. Seems goofy in retrospect, but I'll always have a soft spot for it. I'll also have a soft spot for Lucy, if for no other reason than ScarJo. I have no doubt Leon will lead the poll; it's a decent film, decent story, and everything. Not my favorite, but I can appreciate it. For me, I voted on La Femme Nikita. I love the story, the characters, the acting, and I think it was very well-crafted, nuanced, and a delicately-emotional experience. Not even all the remakes have done it justice. |

Pretty good run with La Femme Nikita, Leon and The Fifth Element. I haven't seen The Big Blue yet, maybe that belongs in there too.
I went with Leon, but it could've been any of the ones I mentioned. |

This was such an easy decision. Leon: The Professional is such a great film. I just watched it yet again the other night, and I can't believe how each and every time I see it, I'm still surprised by how great Natalie Portman was. Jean Reno is of course excellent, and Oldman is just perfectly over the top. But Natalie -- so fantastic.

I watched The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec last night and it was awesome. Loved it from beginning to end.
What's most amazing about it though is just how startlingly different kids movies are in France. This film is, without a doubt, a kids movie. Yet, we see people smoking and drinking, we see a man impaled and killed in the first few minutes of film, a nude woman in a bathtub (although only from behind), a woman with a spike through her head, several incredibly violent off screen deaths, and several very adult jokes and references. Absolutely no way this would fly as a kids movie in the US. |

Not my favorite filmmaker, but he has made one masterpiece and one very good film. I hated almost everything else i've seen of him. Yes, even Léon.
Angel-A is his masterpiece. Visually stunning, great story, very good acting. The mirror scene is magical. In second place is Le Grand Blue. Visually it's gorgeous where everything is bathed in blue colors. Serra's score is very good. Kind of hypnotizing. Story could have been a little bit better. |
