Default Panny Plasmas?

For you people with Panny plasmas...what do you set your orbiter to? Panny told me to leave it on auto. I do game some on it, But I would never intentionally leave a still image on for long.

I've never touched it, and honestly don't really know what it is, so I guess I'm not much help. Sorry.

So do you think auto works only when it needs to?

Honestly, I don't know how the pixel shifter works, when, for how long, or what duration an image needs to remain static for it to activate. I only know what it's supposed to do.

Given that, and the amount of games I play (all with static images of some sort or another), and the durations of some of those game sessions, I will tell you that the worst Image Retention that I've experienced was the "Pixeljunk" logo at the bottom of my screen that took 15-20 minutes of watching full screen video to eliminate. That was before the creators of the Pixeljunk games sent out a patch (or included on new games) an option to lower the luminosity of their logo for Plasma owners. I haven't experienced any burn-in, and this is after gaming sessions that stretch from 2-8 hours on games like Pixeljunk Monsters, Pixeljunk Eden, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, Rock Band, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and Civilization Revolution.

In short, I leave Pixel Shifter on automatic, and it works like it's advertised to, so...

Does the orbiter effect regular images?

We do Wii, and I leave mine on auto. The other thing I’m wondering is, does switching the display setting to “game” do anything to prevent image retention while playing a game, or is it just so you can keep the settings you like for playing games in memory?

I think the game mode is more of a display setting, not pixel shifting. I havent got any information to change the orbiter from auto and Im new to plasma. A few opinions but no facts.

Technically, anything that artificially alters your image, including video enhancements through your video processor and possibly pixel shifting, are not favored by videophiles, THX (their new video division), or ISF (Imaging Science Foundation). I would turn it off if you are not going to have any static images, and that goes for the majority of "enhancements" that these companies put on your TV. When a TV is calibrated properly, most of those enhancements are turned off and the TV actually looks better.

Thanks, I dont have a off selection on my orbiter, just auto and force 1,2,3, and 4. so far it seems like the best idea is to leave it on auto, and just a guess but forcing the pixels to shift every 1-4 minutes may not be good on the tv!

It is not physically shifting the panel, just the image. Each image is shifted on pixel over, then a few minutes later its shifted again. I doubt it is bad for the TV, or the picture quality. But I don't know what the difference is between all of the settings. I have a pz700u and it doesnt have that feature. Honestly, just dont be careless and you wont have a problem

I too have a PZ700U so I don't have the option to change that feature. But I just play it smart....
