I just read the article, and Bird does not say The Iron Giant is coming back to theaters, only that there is more flexibility these days in making it happen.

THE IRON GIANT: SIGNATURE EDITION Coming to Theaters on September 30th

Earlier this year, we reported that The Iron Giant would likely be returning to theaters, and now Warner Bros. has announced that Brad Bird’s wonderful film will be arriving this fall, albeit in a slightly altered form.

The Iron Giant: Signature Edition will be remastered and “enhanced” with two all-new scenes, and released in partnership with Fathom Events on Wednesday, Setepmber 30th at 7pm local time. There will also be an encore event in select markets on Sunday, October 4th at 12:00pm.

The blu-ray will be released in fall.
