Default JAWS.. Returns to the big screen next month!

Jaws celebrates its 40th Birthday next month and we will be seeing it back on the big screen, but it's going to be via Fathom Events.

Fathom is notorious for advertising big screen returns of classic movies and then only sending a DVD (not even Blu-Ray) that the theaters tend to play on their advertising projectors, not even the heavy duty digital bad boys.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow and the screenings will happen between June 21st and June 24th across the country.

July 4th happens to be on a Saturday this year, and they couldn't manage to schedule any screenings for that weekend?

With posts like this you clearly prove that you don't work for a movie studio. Some of the things you post on here make way too much sense.

Sorry. This is a 40th anniversary release and the 40th Anniversary is the 20th. July 4th has nothing to do with the release of the movie.
For ONCE, the studios did the right thing. 4th of July would be a WTF moment.

Jaws is one of my all-time favorite movies, so naturally I've always wanted to see it on the big screen.

I quickly grew cautious about Fathom's screenings, however. The first one I saw, the Halloween 4 & 5 double-feature in 2007, was good. But the second, First Blood in 2008, was a disaster. It didn't fill up the whole screen, but instead looked like a small windowboxed image in the center of the screen. I've also heard about various problems from others who have attended screenings, which made me think my Halloween double-feature was a fluke.

So I'd hate to get tickets for Jaws, then get there and have some kind of problem with the presentation that ruins my enjoyment of finally seeing it on the big screen.

How would it be a WTF moment? The movie centers around July 4th weekend, and it's one of the most watched films during that time every year. I'm sure if given the choice most viewers would definitely prefer to see it July 4th weekend over June. Also cnsidering the anniversary is the 20th, but the screenings all take place after that date anyway, how is it really any different? Because it's closer? I highly doubt most care about that. At the end of the day it's not a huge deal, people who want to see it in theaters will see it regardless of which day.

I'll re-post this story from 2011. I will never forgive the theater for this...

Quote:
So I went to see Jaws at midnight last night at the IFC Center here in NYC.

MY best friend had never seen it so I told her that the next time it played in theaters, we were going. I didn't want her to see it at home.

Well, clearly I had too much faith in the NYU students who run the IFC Center.

THE PROJECTOR MALFUNCTIONED!!!

They had just stuck the third barrel into Bruce and didn't know what to do. Suddenly, the movie stops, lights up and curtain closes.
We all sat there not knowing what to do and waiting for someone to do something. Well, nothing happened for about 5 minutes or so.

THEN...suddenly it starts...but apparently the film had kept rolling because we were in the middle of Hooper getting attacked by the shark!

I was (and still AM) absolutely livid. I had waited for years and then THIS happens.

What a mess. NEVER NEVER again.
The only plus was that my friend didn't like it. She called it "Jaws aka 3 A$$holes on a Boat." Oh well.

I would think that the ONLY people interested in this are big fans of the film who would be more interested in celebrating the 40th anniversary a day after rather than the 4th of July which is (mostly) irrelevant.

I THINK I'M GOING TO DIE BECAUSE I'M SO EXCITED!!!!

I have never seen it on the big screen (only 15 years old, so..), and I have been trying to convince my friends to see it! The time is NOW! Both for them, and for my DREAMS COME TRUE!

Closest theater showing this is >5 minutes away!

Don't get your hopes too high; Fathom Events are really shaky when it comes to the presentation of the actual film. I've had great experiences with them (Rear Window) and terrible experiences (Halloween). I hope they do this film justice and use a quality print.

I am going get down on my knees to start praying now, and pray until I either 1) can't feel my knees anymore, or 2) the time has come to leave to the theater, whichever happens first. PLEASE BE AWESOME FATHOM, MAKE MY LIFE GREAT!

Exactly. I was so excited when they brought POLTERGEIST back to theaters. It was horrible - almost like a DVD, but the kicker was that it was a 16:9 presentation of a 2.35:1 film. I... can't even explain it. Before the opening credits were over I was in the lobby expressing my utmost disdain for this travesty and demanding my money returned. Fool me once, well... that's all ya get.

I was excited when I first heard this, but then I realized that they'll probably play it with that shitty 5.1 audio track!

I think Fathom screenings suck, I took a few friends to see poltergeist when they rereleased ( some had never seen it) and I was sooo upset with how lame the presentation was. I wished I'd just screened it in my screening garden for them. Awful sound, faded picture...they'll never get my $$$ again.

Oh yes, Halloween. I went to that in late 2012, hated the experience. They projected a DVD and people were laughing at parts like Laurie dropping the knife......

I'll stay home and watch my beautiful Blu-ray on my 65" Sony Bravia and new Yamaha YSP-2500 sound projector around July 4th.
