eberts review and some quotes from it: http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/...808140301/1023

Quote:
Has it come to this? Has the magical impact of George Lucas' original vision of "Star Wars" been reduced to the level of Saturday morning animation?
Quote:
basically just a 98-minute trailer for the autumn launch of a new series on the Cartoon Network.
Quote:
plot that (a) makes us feel like we've seen it all before, and (b) makes us wish we hadn't.
Quote:
The characters have hair that looks molded from Play-Doh, bodies that seem arthritic, and moving lips on half-frozen faces -- all signs that shortcuts were taken in the animation work.
Quote:
The dialogue in the original "Star Wars" movies had a certain grace, but here the characters speak to one another in simplistic declamation, and Yoda gets particularly tiresome with his once-charming speech pattern.
Quote:
Ahsoka Tano, by the way, is annoying. She bats her grapefruit-sized eyes at Anakin and offers suggestions that invariably prove her right and her teacher wrong. At least when we first met Yoda, he was offering useful advice. Which reminds me. I'm probably wrong, but I don't think anyone in this movie ever refers to The Force.

I just came back. It was surprisingly PACKED. I laughed hysterically the whole damn time! it was SO bad! But it was star wars... and it succeeded in what it was doing. I was the first one out and I waited for everyone to lave and EVERY child said "Mommy can we go get a star wars toy?"

1) it was reduced to that in the eighties....does he not remember the Droids and Ewoks cartoons....this is a definite improvement over that but simply answered yes it has as with Batman, Spider-Man and other franchises as well the kids market offers other areas such as toys, bed sheets and any other crap you can think of...its a moneymaker.

2) not a trailer its actual episodes strung together...do some research.

3) plot was a bit odd but its a kids movie and doesnt have to be deep and meaningful and full of life lessons...movies can be just for fun.

4) thats the syle...get over it and im sure shortcuts were taken since its a tv show the budget isnt as high...the theatrical release was an after thought.

5) the dialogue had grace?

6) was as annoying as i expected, and do they always have to talk about the force, can they just not use it.

"You know you're in trouble when the most interesting new character is Jabba the Hutt's uncle. The big revelation is that Jabba has an infant to be kidnapped. The big discovery is that Hutts look like that when born, only smaller. The question is, who is Jabba's wife? The puzzle is, how do Hutts copulate? Like snails, I speculate. If you don't know how snails do it, let's not even go there. The last thing this movie needs is a Jabba the Hutt sex scene."

from the wookipedia...

Hutts were hermaphroditic, and as a result, gender was more of a case of a Hutt's deliberate decision or a viewer's deduction. Often, Hutts carrying children were referred to as female, though it was entirely up to the Hutt in question as to if the distinction was accepted or not. For instance, Jiliac was referred to as a female after becoming pregnant, but Popara and Zorba still considered themselves males after birthing their respective children. In addition, some Hutts were known to take mates with each other, such as Gorga and Anachro.

you figure ebert could have someone do some research for him

This is not directed at you per say but the whole its a kids movie thing is a cop out just because its kids movie does not mean it has to be crap and totally ruin a whole series c'mon jabba the hutt's son??Stinky?? Give me a break.I was 4 years old when I remember first seeing The original, now that was a good kids movie I know kids these days need more flash but why mess with a formula that is already successful ?I really doubt George Lucas knows or cares what kids want or fans in general want and thats the problem.

very nice post.

there are lots of kids movies that have well developed stories and characters. just because a movie is geared towards kids doesn't give it a pass for lazy story telling and character developement.

and you are totally right, lucas has no clue what kids want and def. no clue what fans want. he thinks children find obnoxious characters, poorly constructed jokes and bodily functions funny and the epitome of movies and that is simply not true of most children.

i cant really argue with that, and i never said it was a good plot and really its not but it was still a fun movie...for me at least...and i dont think it ruins the whole series thats just being a little over dramatic.

just because a movie does well at the BO doesn't mean that fans and children thought they were good movies.

lucas success comes from the OT in which he did know what he was doing, he has completely lost touch though. If Ep. I, II and III would not have been prequels to the already established Star Wars saga, they would have been massive failures and done absolutely horrible.

ill use myself as an exhibit. im a star wars fan and thinks he has completely lost it.

Just read reviews. His first two films have rankings of like 96% on RT, this one has a 22% right now, the first two in teh PT are in the 60s and III was in the 80s.

Just read on the interent. There are thousands of fan gripes about the PT. Its not hard to find.

He's so outta touch with fans, yet they keep going to see his movies. Pure comedy. LOL!

Few things here. First, I'm as big a star wars fan as their is but some of you guys that defend, defend, defend whatever george puts out need to open up and pull the wool outta your eyes. It has taken me all the way until now but I am finally starting to see the light, George is putting out sh*t...plain and simple. I also agree that the "it's for kids" is a gigantic copout wad of bullsh*t. The orignal trilogy and prequel trilogy are kids movies at heart and George says they are for kids. Those are how d*mn awesome movies. Although the prequels (particularly phantom menace) have alot of fart jokes and other really kiddie crap that was too much over the top for Star Wars. I'm just sick of all the toning it down to make it seem like Star Wars is for 4 year olds (this goes for other movies as well). I used to defend anything that had the Star Wars name attached to it and would try to justify things or talk myself outta not liking certain things even though deep down I knew I didn't like it. I defended it no matter what but .......NOT ANYMORE. I'm sick of it. If it's bullsh*t I'm calling it bullsh*t. There is absolutely no sense it making stuff like this Clone Wars movie like it is. Think back to when you first saw the original Star Wars (A New Hope) and heard leia talk about obi wan serving her father in the clone wars. EVERYBODY was like wow, whats that and I bet it was awesome. Now look at what we get to explain the wars.... Rant over, stepping off soap box to go watch original trilogy to remember just how good Star Wars IS and CAN BE.

I agree with you 100%. I've been a big fan since '77 and have a huge collection, but I'm not going to see this. I may check it out when it comes on T.V.. George Lucas has completely lost it. From what I've heard so far with reviews I'm turned off, I mean more fart jokes and a lame looking Hutt. WTF?
I also stopped collecting about a year ago. It is no longer fun for me and the figures look like crap. I get more enjoyment with watching the original trilogy and displaying my vintage items.
Someone needs to step up and slap the shit out of George.

i wont defend everything the man does, he has made some really poor decisions but im also not so jaded that i cant find some good in things he does or approves.

also remember the series will have different writers and different directors for the episodes so im sure some will better than others. and he always has the upcoming live action series as a chance to redeem himself. but im sure people complain about that too. hell he could make a shot for shot remake of ANH and someone would find a reason to complain. You cant please all the people all the time, it seems some people just cant accept that his vision (however flawed it maybe at times) has changed since '77.

and despite how people make it seem this movie is not 90 minutes of a gay looking hutt farting.

All I can say is how would you feel if Lucas decided to ad some farts or lame looking Hutts to A New Hope and call it the super duper edition. Maybe he could even get Steven Segal to be a super jedi and use his signature raspy voice. Maybe he could have Obiwan call Luke Sky guy a few times for good measure.
If this is any indication of the future of Star Wars, then the Live action show will suck too. Remember everything that Lucas has put on T.V. has pretty much sucked.
Damn, what's next Star Wars The Musical?
