I personally would avoid Craigslist, you never know what you are buying. Sure a TV may start up but then could have an issue where it shuts off after a while, etc and then you basically are screwed. Hate to lump everyone on Craigslist into that category but the dishonest ones outnumber the honest ones, naturally in my opinion of course.

Back in 2008 I bought the 1080p Panasonic 46" 85U series and it has been flawless. My folks got the same TV but in the 50" version. I believe 2008 was the only year they made a 46" size, I felt 42" was too small for my place whereas 50" was too big. My folks have been talking about getting something bigger but I will have to say the sets have been perfect with not a single issue or burn-in problem. Colors are bright, blacks are deep and dark, unfortunate that plasma is a thing of the past, but at the same time, nice to hear the plasma sets are holding their value.

You may be able to find reputable retailers selling on Amazon and then perhaps have the option of adding an extended warranty to it. Buying off Craigslist is a huge crap shoot, especially since Craigslist is really nothing more than a giant garage sale. You have no idea how the TV was handled, if it was ever dropped or has any internal issues that aren't noticeable at first. Sure you may find an honest person selling a good set, but I tend to error on the side of caution when it comes to Craigslist.

Even though I suggested Craig's list, I never buy used electronics. However I'm not looking for a cheap plasma TV. So good luck.
Personally you might have to adjust your brand. Perhaps best buy has some Samsung plasmas. Worth a search. |

While Best Buy has nothing listed on their website for plasma televisions, with the exception of some marketplace sellers who are offering a few larger sizes, but who these sellers are is another question. You may find a store that has some older stock of plasma's perhaps on clearance in-store but I would say the chances are slim to none.

Buying a television should not be this difficult, I think the OP is making it much harder than it should be and only causing more work for himself by going based on every single opinion on here or online. The simplest way is go to a retailer and look over all the televisions in your budget range and be prepared to write down model numbers, what you like and dislike and narrow the list down. Maybe make a few trips if you are that concerned about it, but eventually you will find one you like. IF you don't, and motion blur/ghosting is a huge issue for you now, your only other option really is to wait it out until they make sets that preform as good if not better than plasma with regards to motion blur and by all accounts that day is coming, its just a matter of when they are released and when they are affordable. That's about all I can on this subject, good luck though. |
