In terms of box office opening numbers, you mean? I'd say The Force Awakens. Booking a seat for that is gonna be a *****.

I expect Katniss Everdeen's ending in Panem to draw more box office success than a franchise like SW with the prequels being so hated.

I doubt it. every message board I ever see and sci fi fan I know of in the real world are all getting EXCITED as hell and are cheering because it looks like JJ is giving the middle finger to the prequels. I expect SW to be probably the BIGGEST box office draw of the year. right now some analysts are estimating $300 million opening weekend....domestic

In December? I doubt it, especially since most people won't be on Christmas break and it will have to deal with the final film from the Hunger Games franchise as well.

Yeah, I'm not so sure about SW being quite as huge on opening weekend as some people think it will be. But I also don't think Mockingjay Pt. 2 will beat JW either.

Hmm, this is a tough call.

I'm going to go with Infinity War Part 1.

ETA: Oh, let me add this, though: I do think that SW will eventually beat out -- possibly crush -- JP. I just think that a December opening is tough. But it will last longer at the box.

ETA2: The top December opening ever is The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, at $84M.

The Force Awakens feel like will be the only to have a chance at it.

A number of these movies could probably do it, but I'm going with The Force Awakens as my no. 1 pick. Even the prequels did well at the box office, though they didn't make as much money as they could have because they were pretty divisive and considered disappointing by many. If the general consensus on TFA will be that it's a genuinely good movie, well, a Star Wars film that's widely considered good? That would be massive. At the same time though, being released in December could hurt it, but in the long run it'll definitely outgross Jurassic World either way.

A lot of people get the idea that this movie is a "**** you" to the prequels simply because it follows the OT more in style and features returning characters, designs, etc. from those movies. Personally though, I think it's pretty obvious it always would do that since it's set 35 years after Return of the Jedi. Being more connected to the PT either stylistically or story-wise would make no sense regardless of the filmmakers' feelings on those movies.

I'm going Infinity Wars Part 1. Don't see any of the other ones having a chance to beat the record. In the case of Fast 8, I think it will do less business than it's predecessor.

Star Wars will be the only movie bigger for the rest of the year. Spectre and Mockingjay might come close but only one of those is getting released in 3D, and the 3D release isn't global.

Great year for blockbusters!

As I said, I think it will when all is said and done. But that opening weekend is going to be really, really tough.
