TVShowsOnDVD.com has commented again on this POSSIBLE release!

Note that they have also commented on a possible Blu-ray release of "Day Break" (the short lived Taye Diggs series) next year as well.

The original post mentioned in the two articles is here: LINK

There's actually some interesting discussion about TV-on-Blu-ray releases farther down that page as well. The link is here: LINK

Well I definitely don't think they'll track backwards and start doing Blu-Ray transfers of old seaons. I don't think they'll make enough profit back on them to do that with old seasons. It'll be easier and cheaper to put out what's in HD now on BD, so probably just the higher rating shows will get a Blu-Ray release.

Well..... I just jumped on the Curb-Your-Enthusiam "Gold-box" deal of the day a few days ago (I got it in the mail yesterday) it was the first 6 seasons on DVD for $95 pretty good deal I thought....

I got it for a gift for my father-in-law so he'll quit borrowing mine, but I was really hoping for it on Blu-ray so I could just give him my old DVD copies....... now I don't know if I'll justify double dipping .....

They STILL release random older shows on DVD......

I got "The Critic" years after it went off the air

Well of course on DVD they will. It doesn't cost much these days to put anything on DVD. But what I'm saying is I don't think they'll go back in the vault to do an HD transfer of old TV shows or previous non-HD seasons of a recent TV just to release it on Blu-Ray. I don't think anyone would see high profits in releasing an old TV show on BD.

i didn't know firefly was ever that popular. and i was talking about t.v. shows that were popular when on tv. firefly wasn't popular on tv. hence the quick cancellation.

Bottom line..... They'll release older shows on Blu-ray, even if they were/weren't on DVD, if they think they'll meet a minimum threshold of copies sold to turn a profit.....

Bizzzzzzzzness.

Im sure its been said b4 but wicky or someone but, Im sure only the best selling boxes will make the full jump to blu-ray as alot of seasons can't sell on dvd so they wouldnt make it to blu-ray they aren't going to waste the money re-doing the shows unless they really think there can be a buck made.

"Firefly" was not popular while it was on TV, but it was popular on DVD (hence why I said "on DVD"). I'm wanting to say I read somewhere that it's one of Fox's best selling TV on DVD sets, but I may be mixed up.

Either way, my question still stands... what does that have to do with anything?

I have NO doubt in my mind that the studios will be focusing on NEW season releases for the next couple of years.

I have NO doubt in my mind that the studios will be FOCUSING on shows AIRED in HD (or easy to convert to HD... ala "Smallville" and "Enterprise" which were not broadcast in HD until several seasons in, but currently air in HD on HDNet).

I have NO doubt in my mind that the studios won't bother releasing quite a few series we have on DVD now on Blu-ray.

However, I do NOT agree with djluis2k6. It may be a couple of years, but the studios will get around to some older series and older seasons.

I posted a link above to the Home Theater Forum in which someone from TVShowsOnDVD is discussing TV on Blu-ray with a BCI rep which I found quite enlightening. Very interesting reading for those of us who like TV on Blu-ray sets.

The X-Files
The Sopranos S1-5

I'd love to see these two but I'm not sure if they were filmed on actual film stock or not. Assuming they were these could be awesome releases.

(Some TV shows were shot on film, others on video ...)

I'd kind of like to see Star Trek: The Next Generation on Blu-Ray assuming it could be restored from the original film elements which would be a massive undertaking. All the FX were shot on video so they'd have to be redone entirely.

Then there are some shows that aired in HD and should really be released on Blu-ray already:
House
Deadwood
Rome
Boston Legal

House especially needs a re-release. The first season DVD is atrocious due to it's framing error.
