Default Plasma owners: How much banding/false contouring do you have?

Plasma owners:

My LG TV is driving me insane, because I have recently discovered the banding/false contouring issues, which creates a stair-step look to gradients in images.

False contouring is defined by C-NET as:
Quote:
An artifact common to fixed-pixel displays that produces splotchy, distinct sections in what should be gradual gradations of color or shadows. Also referred to as solarization and posterization.

My question for you is this... how much false contouring do you notice in your TV? I wasn't bothered by it before, but now that I know what it is, it drives me nuts.

Another good example of what banding/false contouring looks like is this DELL monitor shot. You can see the stair-stepping along the bottom half of the image:

I notice it occasionally in games and menu screens or when there is very thin line art, but never in actual movies. Keep in mind, my plasma is more than 5 yrs old (fourth generation) and I would expect the top of the line plasmas to be able to handle gradients these days. Solarization is a very common problem.

I found that if I use component from my PS3 instead of HDMI, this problem goes away.

Very, very strange!

Just updating this thread:

It appears that my LG TV does not process the HDMI signal, and it comes in "hard" without any of the internal controls over banding/false contouring being implemented. I have a feeling that this was just LG being cheap, and "slapping on" a cheap HDMI solution to an older model of a set.

Just a note for LG Plasma users -- you may find that component looks much better than HDMI.
