Default The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki Amazon Exclusive Nov. 17th

According to Nerdist.com it looks like Disney will be releasing a complete collection of Miyazaki's theatrical films exclusively through Amazon on November 17th.

From Nerdist:
Quote:
Due out exclusively from Amazon on November 17th, The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki contains each of the maestro’s eleven feature films: Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo, and The Wind Rises.

But the highlight for those who already own all of these films on Blu-ray will be the set’s bonus features, including Yuki no Taiyo (Yuki’s Sun) — a 1972 television pilot based on a manga by Tetsuya Chiba that was directed, storyboarded and animated by Hayao Miyazaki. The set also contains three episodes (26, 27, and 41) of the 1972 anime series Akado Suzunosuk (Little Samurai), featuring storyboards by the filmmaker. Fans will also get the uncut version of Miyazaki’s Retirement Press Conference, which was thankfully not the final page in his career. The whole package is rounded off with a book featuring The Great Dichotomy: Looking at the Works of Hayao Miyazaki by Tomohiro Machiyama, which “explores the themes and techniques of this revered Japanese filmmaker, and selected text from Hayao Miyazaki’s initial notes and creative proposals for the production of each film.”
MSRP $249.99

That looks so beautiful. I'm a little upset now since I'm so close to finishing my individual collections. Not a fan of double dipping.

I already own all of those films on that list and still need to supplement some of them with non-dubtitled versions from other countries. But, I would love to own the bonus features that are a part of this package. I am surprised that Lupin is a part of this set, since it is not distributed by Disney here in the U.S.

I'm surprised Lupin is included in this set because of the profanity included in the Manga dub.

It's still missing some movies though. Don't know if it is worth it since I already have 7 of the ones in that set. Then again, I don't have Mononoke due to its dubtitles, so if Disney were to actually fix them, it might be worth it. Of course, it might be worth getting this just to clear up on shelf space on my anime movie shelf.

I could have sworn he directed more than just 11 movies. Oh well.

It would have been nice if it also included the "On Your Mark" music video he directed but got dropped from the Japanese collection last year. I guess the anal retentiveness of the Japanese music industry would make it not worth the cost to license it.

Blame the drug use of one the Japanese singers for On your Mark being dropped from the set. You should just be happy we are getting Yuki's Sun and the 3 Japanese TV episodes on Blu-ray because the UK didn't get them and Australia only got them on a DVD disc instead of on a Blu-ray.

Oh man, I'm down for this. I don't mind double dipping even though I have most of these.
Plus it looks like it comes in a nice slipbox.

The new Discotek Blu-ray contains a toned down version of the Manga dub.

The aftermarket price on this is going to skyrocket if they aren't making a ton of them. On the other hand a day one purchase makes no sense if they're going to be readily available. I wonder which route this goes?

I would be all over this if I didn't own the majority of the movies already.

Nice looking set. Already own all of the films though. Don't know if I want to double dip or not.

I hope the price is right, but knowing Disney..."The Price is Wrong, B****!"

The box set does look lovely but like most of you here, I pretty much have all of these movies on blu-ray (that I want). The extras sound nice though. It will be interesting to see the contents of the book. And, I am surprised that it contains Lupin; I would doubt that it has all the extras and stuff that the Discotek disc has. It would be nice to have all the films in one collective box but I would still have to keep the Discotek disc (unless Disney are using their disc. haha.).
