The other two since they are much older titles will be a toss up if you get them with slips from where ever you order them from.
The photo on amazon shows all three without the slipcover, so I think it's safe to say it won't be there for those...ugh I would just be so annoyed if I ordered it from somewhere and they didn't have the slips.

I wouldn't depend on the pics from AMZ. Users upload person pics all the time and AMZ uses them sadly. So then people order it thinking it'll come with a slip and then AMZ has to review the whole thing when people call into CS haha.

Here is a nice tribute video for Hayao Miyazaki that a fan made. It has some really cool 3D.

I gotta say, the more I look and think about this boxed set, the less excited I am.

Really wish this set had some cool extras and a better presentation. There could have been some more interesting packaging, maybe some alternative artowrk, individual cases for each film. I'm not really seeing any added value for those of us who already own most of the films. The one disc of extras isn't really doing it for me.

The set is starting to feel like a money grab which really makes me sad. It definitely does not warrant the price premium. I thought my excitement for this set would ramp up but it's not.

All box sets released after its constituent films have been released by themselves are by definition money grabs. That said, the MSRP is reasonable at $249.99 since that's roughly the same as the average retail price of the 11 films by themselves.

If fully half of Disney's ten Miyazaki BD releases had not been given various levels of problems (lossy audio, burnt-in dub credits, and/or dubtitles) I might have considered selling my singles and getting this box set.

Wait, people actually care about the credits? That is the first time I have ever heard of someone complaining about the credits not being the original. Hell, I am anal at times and I don't even give a **** what credits are there just as long as there are credits.

I was pretty annoyed to find out about Nausicaa's dub credits, but I'm also too lazy to do anything about it. Same with Ponyo and its lossy audio; too lazy to care (plus I'm not an audiophile). However, I will not put up with dubtitles.

The biggest problem with those two films is that the HK/Taiwan releases of them were also borked in significant ways (Ponyo had 1080i video and Nausicaa's subs were a mess) so the only way to get improved versions for my Region-A player would be to get the Japanese releases at the current price of $52/ea.

And before some Brit chimes in, their BDs of the films had their own problems (forced English credit sequences in Ponyo, Nausicaa being DNR'd to death).

Yeah, I'm glad you and others had talked about Ponyo 1080i and bad Nausicaa subs in the other Ghibli threads. I just came back from a trip to Japan and Taiwan, and I purchased the Deltamac TW BDs for Laputa, Kiki's, Only Yesterday, Pom Poko, Princess Mononoke, and Yamadas. I decided the 1.78 cropping for Laputa was negligible enough of a difference for me.

Glad to be of service. For the record, here's the least-expensive Region-A compatible version of each Miyazaki film that is fit for watching (read: with lossless Japanese audio and proper literal subtitles)...

Cagliostro: US
Nausicaa: JP (US disqualified for burnt-in dub credits, HK/TW for bad subtitles)
Laputa: HK/TW (US disqualified for dubtitles)
Totoro: US
Kiki: HK/TW (US disqualified for dubtitles)
Porco: US
Mononoke: HK/TW (US disqualified for dubtitles)
Spirited Away: US
Howl: US
Ponyo: JP (US disqualified for lossy Japanese audio, HK/TW for 1080i video)
Wind Rises: US

If you must also have a dub for the small children in your household, then switch out my recommendation of the HK/TW discs for Kiki and Laputa with their Japanese counterparts.

The US Ghibli Blu-rays aren't "scrubbed", like some of the UK releases are?

The US releases look identical to their corresponding JP counterparts in terms of DNR usage, so I presume they used the same source master. However, the average video bitrate for each film's encode is lowered to the typical 22-25 mbps range that Disney uses for all its discs.

The only exception to the bitrate rule is Cagliostro, which was released by Discotek and simply reused the 37 mbps video encode from the Japanese "silhouette" release.

There absolutely are people who care. The original Japanese title screens have a certain artistry to them that are lost with the English titles. I already had the JP BD of Nausicaa by the time the US one came out, but if I hadn't already, I'd have gotten it for the original titles/credits.

I hat dubtitles, but if I have to deal with them, I will. As for Ponyo's lossy audio, meh, it's not even that good a movie to begin with, so whatever. In fact, I haven't watched it since the day the BD came out. It is by far Miyazaki's most lackluster movie.

They're credits, so I don't care if they are in English or Japanese. I most likely won't watch them anyway since the only time I watch credits are when I'm seeing the movie for the first time in a theater.

Amazon has added the back-of-box image to the listing. It sounds like it will include the original extras (although "hours" of extras could be used to describe the bundled disc, since the conference is 90 minutes and there are 3 bonus TV episodes included). And "Cagliostro" indeed looks to be All-Region, but it doesn't mention any (new) extras specific to it. Have to wait a few weeks still, I guess!

EDIT (1 Nov): Apparently the set has dropped a further $10 and is now only $215.

Thank you very much for this list. I was planning on starting to pick up some Miyazaki Blu-rays on Black Friday if there are any good deals; I will keep this list in mind during my search. I'll look for Howl, Spirited way, and Totoro in-store, since I'm in the US.

Besides packaging, what is different from the individual titles and this release?
