Default Miami Vice Blu-ray problems

This Miami Vice bluray won't play right in my Sharp Aquos player. I keeps locking up at each chapter change. It's locking up my whole system and it's pissing me off.

Default firmware

Yes, I've upgraded with the latest firmware upgrade. This Sharp unit seems to have a lot of problems as listed on Amazon.

I have an Aquos and I watched Miami Vice today. It played just fine.

Occasionally, my Aquos does some funny things. It seems to lock up at times and respond really slow. I've found that if I completely unplug it and then plug it back in it seems to work great after that.

Default Maybe a bad copy?

I think I'll go exchange the disc tomorrow. Maybe I got a defective copy.

I've unplugged the unit. It still locks up at the same spots.

First there's a hole in the soundtrack at 1:28:47 that isn't like that on the French audio track on the disc or the commentary track.

Second, at 1:36:52 when it cuts back to them in the boat for a few seconds the grain structure of the image goes into horizontal strips made up of diagonal lines - possibly an artefact of having been shot on a moving boat but still, it's a shot in the movie and should be of equivalent technical standard to the rest, imho.

Any help much appreciated

Hi esterhase Sorry it took me a little while to get back to you. I've been gaming and haven't been watching much blus lately. However, I did just now pop in the Miami Vice blu and check it out at the markers you indicated. I didn't hear any interuption in the audio at all. Can you verify the markers? The first one (1:28:47) they were on the cargo ship talking about FBI DC knew when they were going to arrive. The second one (1:36:52) they were on the speedboat talking to the boss in the helicopter about finding the trailer park. Both scenes played straight through and no dropouts or holes in the audio.

I should note that I played this from my Oppo BD player through HDMI to my receiver (utilizing bitstream for my audio). I feel it's safe to say it's not the disc. What gear do you have and how do you have it hooked up?

The second is not a sound issue and you'll probably need to be in a dark room and have your display settings appropriate (like THX levels) to see the diagonal lines on the picture.

Neither bits are drastic but they are extremely disappointing if they're mastering errors. N.B. we're talking the unrated director's edition but I'm sure you recall that from post #7 and the scenes you describe are the right ones which they wouldn't be if you were watching the theatrical I guess.

thanks again
Sorry buddy, I played those scenes a couple times and I don't see / hear any issues with them. The audio scene I played at -15 and I don't hear a drop out: the ambience is there with the wind and the ocean. As for the video portion in the second scene, I've watched it on my projector and there are no visual flaws that I've spotted (other than the obvious prevalent noise that exists as a result of Michael Mann's style). Sorry.

Does your disc have number #61105009 on the top right corner of the back?
Interesting...no, my case has the UPC number 025195041744 in the upper right corner on the back. As far as I know, this was the only release of this disc. Do you have a US copy?

Thanks for checking though dude

Anyone else wanna check these two points detailed in post #7 to try and close this out?
I'm curious now too, if someone else can weigh in on it. I'm usually very critical / nitpicky, and I tend to pick up on the things that you mentioned.

The only problem with this release is how awful the film is itself.

OPINION. RELAX.
