I'm just curious: who around here feels weird about having photos taken? Whether its professional or personal, I get fairly nervous about solo shots, mainly due to my eyes being misaligned. When I shift my view either way, the opposite eye re-positions itself...so I always look strange. My glasses help hide it sometimes, but correcting it for good would require very expensive ocular surgery, which isn't covered by my insurance.
So, what's your stance on this issue? Do you like it, hate it, or land somewhere in between? |

Dang, I thought I was the only one. My family takes it as a challenge to try and get photos of me.

I'm in tons of family photos as a kid. Somewhere around my late-teens, though, I disappear from a lot. As I got older, I became self-conscious and didn't like the way I looked, so I would avoid the camera as much as I could. I cringe when I look at some of the photos I took with celebs at conventions, because I don't like how I look (to me, it appears like I'm trying to smile rather than just smiling), and I find myself reluctant to show them when people ask to see them.
Nowadays, I find I'm okay with pictures being taken while I'm doing something, like playing with the dogs in the backyard or otherwise occupied with something other than the camera. The other night, I even took some selfies while laying in the floor with one of the dogs and loved them so much I shared them on Facebook. But when I have to actually pose for a picture, either solo or with someone else, I find it difficult because I know I'm not doing to like what I see once I look at the picture. The picture in my profile is probably about seven years old now, but I use it for a lot of profile pictures because I think it came out pretty nice and none I've tried to take since have been nearly as good. I used to be uncomfortable but then I got into several hobbies where one gets one's picture taken all the time. Now I'm used to ignoring multitudes of cameras as part of the act, and I also have no problem posing for or with people.
My wife usually hates pictures of her, but she's okay with posing along with me. |

These days, I simply roll with it, and I don't mind having my photo taken for group shots on Facebook, running races, and such. I guess that, as I grow older, I like having fun moments captured more than I did in past years. |

Most people are uncomfortable being photographed because they are used to the laterally reversed image of themselves they see in mirrors. If you really want to avoid being photographed carry a camera
