I was hoping Sony or Panasonic would use RGB. WOLED works similar to an LCD. It's probably the reason why I think LG's looks like an LCD. Wonderful picture of course but lacks that plasma look.

Comparisons awhile back with a Samsung OLED, which uses RGB, found the Samsung to look more like a plasma. Which I agree with from what I saw the last time i got to check one out.

Seems like such a long time since there was a TV even worth considering. The price is out of this world though, I will have to wait until the tech is much more affordable and more importantly perfected.

Different technology. LCD depends on backlight, while OLED does not, since it is self emissive. RGB OLED uses pixels with Red/Green/Blue phosphors, while WOLED uses 4 white OLED + Red Green and Blue filters for 3 of the white OLEDs per pixel. The "white" OLEDs actually use a combination of blue/yellow phosphors. WOLED is more economical than RGB OLED to produce.

What is needed to bring cost down on OLED panel production is reliable inkjet printing. They are making good progress.

Yeah a white OLED with color filters. True RGB OLED would give a more plasma like look i think. Glowing phosphors is key!

The highlighted statement is not correct. Each WOLED pixel is discrete and can be switched off, hence its perfect black level. The problem with RGB OLED is the life expectancy of the blue pixel. WOLED avoids this issue resulting in a panel life exceeding 30,000 hours. Have you read any of the LG OLED reviews? Flatpanels, for example?

Let's hope Sony does something similar soon with OLED. While Panasonic's processing is great, I've always slightly preferred Sony's "guts" on their TVs. Sony's style on their TVs is usually much more elegant too (with the exception of those side speaker models) IMHO.
