WOLED, same type thing is now happening in the professional realm with a manufacturer that I’m not at liberty to name….

They are probably referring to custom interface between LG panel and Panasonic processor.
Also, Panasonic OLED demoed with LG OLED and Sony monitor during non-disclosure period: " As already pointed out the CZ950 can achieve a bright 450cd/m2 maximum brightness on-screen, but not the 1000 nits most say is the minimum for HDR playback. But the OLED also has absolute black and a stunning dynamic range on its side, so the resulting HDR images are bright, but more importantly the image is fully rendered from the brightest point to the darkest black and everything else in between. It’s comfortable to watch as it is not retina-burning bright, and it highlights the layers we can’t normally resolve from film, bringing out a three dimensional look to the image far more than Ultra HD resolution can do on its own. It highlights how HDR could be a game changer if done correctly. " https://www.avforums.com/review/pana...d-review.11860 |

Comparisons awhile back with a Samsung OLED, which uses RGB, found the Samsung to look more like a plasma. Which I agree with from what I saw the last time i got to check one out. |

What is needed to bring cost down on OLED panel production is reliable inkjet printing. They are making good progress. http://spie.org/x114728.xml http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news...29_185315.html |

"Let us think about this for a minute: A light source (white OLED rather than LEDs) that still uses filters at front to produce the colors? Sounds familiar? What kind of “emissive OLED” is that when the colored light is actually not emitted by a pixel at front? WOLED appears to be another “transmissive” technology with local dimming but using OLED as light source at the sub-pixel level, rather than edge, top, or multi-zone LEDs. So regardless if the WOLED may not look as emissive as RGB OLED it controls black at the pixel level and the image looks stunning, and for most consumers, that is what it counts, a great image." http://www.hdtvmagazine.com/articles...etter-oled.php I know it's difficult and more expensive to use RGB that's why WOLED is used. Last i read, Samsung said they're still trying to perfect it. |

See the difference in pixel structure here (Figure 2): http://informationdisplay.org/IDArch...atterning.aspx Also: "Figure 3 shows several structures developed to realize white-OLED devices. Among these, the tandem OLED structure has merits in terms of longer lifetime and higher efficiency; however, the manufacturing process is a bit more complicated. The tandem device with two emissive layers as shown in Fig. 3 can greatly reduce current level to achieve the required brightness value of each pixel and more than doubling lifetime. The tandem device can also easily achieve very high efficiency because both efficiency values of each single cell are combined.1 In the beginning of 2013, LG Electronics announced commercial production of 55-in. AMOLED displays that use the tandem WOLED + CF approach. (In the CES Review in this issue of ID, author Steve Sechrist notes that LG planned to begin shipping these units in Korea in February of 2013.) Last edited by raygendreau; 09-03-2015 at 11:17 PM. |

Robert:
The technology is amazing and its only going to get better with more manufacturers entering into the technology. Flat OLEDs are already being sold. |

Now, I’m old, less dumb (I think, but you'd better check first with PeterTHX) and well….let’s just say thee prostate and seminal vesicles aint what they used to be…..so, instead of riding a 400cc two-wheeled rocket ship, I now settle for servicing Ray’s requests and posting a YouTube video in which ‘Hollywood’ is mentioned a record number of times in the first minute as a prelude to another CZ………… Courtesy, originally from this page…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...89830&page=285 |

Let's hope Sony does something similar soon with OLED. While Panasonic's processing is great, I've always slightly preferred Sony's "guts" on their TVs. Sony's style on their TVs is usually much more elegant too (with the exception of those side speaker models) IMHO.
