That's it. I read the first volume of the original Iron Man comics from the 60's quite a few years ago, and I definitely remember a rotund Chinese gentleman kidnapping Tony, which leads to him creating the first bulky iron suit. Cheers, I wasn't imagining it.

Why does every marvel thread degenerate into Mandarin was butchered complaining? GET OVER IT. Just because you wanted the outdated version of The Mandarin who doesn't even exist anymore, doesn't mean you should have gotten him. Marvel was nice enough to make a one shot to satisfy you complainers and what did they get for it? More complaining. Move on with your life already.

Maybe the MCU will become a little more daring and not so "safe?" Would be nice.

Killian was a combo of several characters, one of them being Fin Fang Foom (the fire powers)

They did something similar with Vanko, using elements from both Whiplash and the Crimson Dynamo.

Disney views AoU as a failure and that helped lead to the shakeup at Marvel Studios.

I liked the film overall, but Natasha's romance with Banner felt a little forced, plus Hawkeye having a family out of nowhere. Plus, Ultron's humor seemed too deadpan, with very little life in it; I don't know whether that was Spader's fault, Whedon's, or the Committee's.

It certainly had a huge drop in domestic grosses compared to the first one and cost a shitload of money to make. Maybe they had their own 'ASM2' moment and decided things needing shaking up, only unlike Sony they couldn't pick up the MarvelPhone™ and call for help, they ARE Marvel. Same solution both times though: stop the idiot who bases their creative decisions on merchandise sales from calling the shots.

Still, the heck of it is I loved Age of Ultron compared to Avengers 1, which left me cold. And yes, I did just moan about how rubbish Thor 2 is because of all the corporate fingers in the pie, but with Ultron at least you had someone in the director's chair who still managed to impart as much of his own vision (heh) as he could within those committee-led restrictions, unlike the journeyman direction of Alan Taylor.

Maybe it wasn't their fault at all. Why does it have to be someone's fault that you didn't like something? Hawkeyes family was the grounding the film needed. Spader was terrific and I personally had no problem whatsoever with Natasha and Banner's relationship. Maybe it's just your tastes and not someone involved in the productions fault?

Did they not get rid of Avi Arad a few years ago ?

If I were the only one complaining, you might have a point...but many have made similar remarks online, about all the issues I addressed. The first film set up Hawkeye and Natasha as possibly being involved, and then he suddenly has a family with no explanation. Bruce's reluctance at least makes sense, with him being concerned about passing on his "curse". As for Spader, I've read quite a few comments where people weren't prepared for the character's sense of humor.

That was one of the best moves, too. Arad was the one mostly responsible for "Spider-Man 3" being too crowded; I heard he actually pressured Raimi into including Venom, under the pretense of the character having a massive fanbase. He didn't think the Sandman and Harry could hold the film up on their own, in the villain department...so everything else fell apart in the end.

There was no hinting that Natasha and Barton had any romantic relationship. He saved her from her life as a villain. Of course there is going to be strong feelings for the other person. Doesn't automatically make them romantic. People weren't prepared or Ultron's humor? So that is the filmmakers fault? That makes absolutely no sense. So a character cracked a few jokes. Oh no. So he wasn't exactly what people expected. I guess that makes it terrible. Also, a few comments from fanboys who complain about everything is hardly reason to look for blame to place on someone.

I love that some of the biggest complaints from people about the MCU are about thing in the movies that weren't in the trailers.

I love that every time I see an MCU I can almost guarantee that there will be a surprise that wasn't leaked and wasn't even hinted at in the trailer.

The number of movies that actually do that these days is next to nill.

I thought Ultron himself was great, I often find it difficult to tune into Whedon's 'voice' that he gives his adult characters but Ultron's blithe wisecracks were perfect for a machine that just didn't give a shit. Loved Hawkeye's backstory too.

Iron Man 3 trailers are the best thing Marvel Studios has ever done. The film itself is their worst. And you know I'm definitely not a comic book fanboy.

It is a prime example that even Marvel can screw up. It will always be brought up so learn to ignore it.
