Default Carolco Pictures is back

Do you remember this logo ?

You've seen in it movies like T2 , Total Recall, Universal Soldier etc. Unfortunately the company went bankrupt in 1995 because of a flop called Cutthroat Island , and when you think that they chose to finance this movie instead of a big-budget Verhoeven-Schwarzenegger movie... geez.

It seems they have 2 horrors in project, hopefully they can give us some of the 80's vibe back ... http://www.imdb.com/company/co0094459/?ref_=fn_al_co_3

Crusade would have kept them going, Cutthroat Island deserved to flop. I am surprised Mario Kassar is back using the name though. They will never be as big as they once were.

Carolco had a lot of good films back in the day. Hope this works for them.

Perhaps there is still time to do Crusade. I so wanted to see that movie when I read up on it.

No one wanted to take a chance on it because how big the film was, Verhoeven was sweating it out. In the end Carolco likely would have spent close to that of Cutthroat Island and made money out of it. Arnie was in his prime and it was just the right time for the project to happen. Unfortunately it is just one of those projects that were never meant to be. So many Schwarzenegger projects that never saw the light of day. In 94 Oliver Stone's Planet of the apes, in 98 The Rock, in the late 90s/early 00s True Lies 2, in 02 Schwarzenegger's I Am Legend with Ridley Scott and the unmade WWII epic With Wings As Eagles which would have been a proper comeback film.

Also I forgot about the pirate film Captain Blood, Arnie even commissioned a piece of artwork for it. He didn't like the way he looked as a pirate so decided not to do it.

I did a bit of digging and Jerry Goldsmith did the audio track for this, unsurprisingly cause I recognised his themes. Its even included on a 2010 release of the First Blood soundtrack.

Carolco came back in 2003 when they produced Terminator 3. They were known as C2. They are riding the nostalgia train that is chugging along right now. Maybe Golan & Globus will get back together when the dollar signs start going off in their eyes.

You are making me weep.... all those projects would have been awesome.

That art though looks totally badass, Arnold should have made the movie.

I love Cutthroat Island, it's one of my alltime favourite adventure movies, the blu ray looks and sounds great, i love rewatching it. I can understand if they chose financing that over a Schwarzeneggar movie that you'd be pissed at this decision, i wasn't aware it was either Cutthroat Island or Crusade. Personally i'm glad we got Cutthroat Island as i love it, but it obviously killed the company.

Is that the alcatraz Rock or a different movie? I only mention as that was in 1996 so surely Arnie wouldn't have been doing one in 98.

Crusade had a projected $175 million budget and had the script been filmed as is, it probably would have been an NC-17. Cutthroat Island was simply the safer option (a $90 million budget and a guaranteed PG-13 is more marketable and easier to return the cost).

What killed Cutthroat Island was MGM's poor marketing (they picked up domestic rights and pretty much left it for dead against heavy Christmas competition as nearly all of MGM's marketing budget had been spent on GoldenEye and Get Shorty). Had it opened around February or March, it probably would have performed a lot better than it did.

I think that's supposed to be Sgt. Rock, which has been in development since the 1980's (this is also why Shane Black is in Predator, as he was working on the script with Schwarzenegger during filming).

Another unfilmed Schwarzenegger project that would have been interesting was Ridley Scott's I Am Legend. Imagine getting that instead of the version we got. Also, it was the second time we almost got Schwarzenegger and Jennifer Connelly in a movie together (Connelly was also attached to Crusade).

I agree, it would have been something different this would have been instead of Chuck Russell's Eraser in 96.

The soundtrack was good but in my opinion it fell flat completely even with how huge some of the set pieces were. I prefer Harlin's later effort with his wife then, the long kiss goodnight. Now that film was awesome.

Sorry I got my years mixed up yes indeed Michael Bay's The Rock. As Buscemi pointed out though another project that was in development hell was Sgt. Rock with Joel Silver in the late 80s/ early 90s.

Presumably Arnie would have had the Goodspeed role. I imagine the script would have had the character be quite different if Arnie had played him. I love Arnie but i think The Rock is perfect the way it is, the chemistry between Cage and Connery is to die for and the stuff that action movie classics are made of!

I also love The Long Kiss Goodnight, i am a huge Harlin fan and it pains me to see him make failure after failure as i think he had a great run in the 90's (in terms of movies i've loved).
