Default Universal May Relaunch Jaws, and Back To The Future.

DreamWorks contract with Disney ends next year, and it is said that they will shack up with Universal Pictures which means a reboot of Jaws and Back To The Future may be in the cards at some point.

Only a good idea if they combine them.

I say no both are great films that have held up well over time. Don't think there's anything they could do to improve them. Might could see another sequel to Jaws but not a redo of the original.

Jaws, no. Back to the Future might be fun.

First of all, a Back to the Future remake should have happened in 2015 with Marty traveling back to 1985. But regardless, Zemeckis and Gale have said that a remake would happen over their dead bodies and they have the true control over that. Jaws is iconic and one of my favorites. While the idea of better effects in interesting, in the case of both movies, you cannot recapture lightning in a bottle. It was the right stew of good original stories, great casting, iconic soundtracks, etc. What could you possibly use to replace the Delorean? Or Christopher Lloyd for that matter? Or Crispin Glover's perfectly understated starring role of the picture? He was the true star that movie you know? I think of both as holy grail movies and you can only mess them up with attempted remakes. And I'm not 100% against remakes for the record. Just the wrong movies for it.

Spielberg will not let them remake Jaws. Universal will want to stay in his good graces.

That's good really there's no reason to remake it or Back to the Future. Back to the Future should just be left alone. Know said it earlier but a Jaws sequel could work.

Back to the Future can't be redone, though they may try and fail someday.
I'm a big believer that Jaws deserves a sequel, not a remake. No need to try to redo the original, just pick up at a later time. It's not a complicated story that needs to be retold. They could make it a Megalodon instead of a Great White.

Let's hope you're right. There's absolutely no worthwhile rationale for remaking this film. It's perfect in every way. Some might argue the special effects could be improved upon given present day technology, however, is there a director of Spielberg's caliber in place to take the helm, and and is there a cast equal to Scheider, Shaw, and Dreyfuss ready to step in? I doubt it. I suspect a remake would be a travesty ala the recent remake of Poltergeist.

With the Sharknado films out there why even bother with a new Jaws?

Miles Teller for McFly. The rage that would follow the casting news would be ****ing hilarious.

Both could be very cool in the hands of the right director who knows how to actually tell a story, work with actors and incorporate the CGI in a way that doesn't overpower the narrative.

But both could be god-awful in the hands of a Renny Harlin/Michael Bay type.

It wouldn't equal the rage of casting Justin Bieber. It's so bad I fear it could actually happen.

I'd probably just give up on film if that happened.

Bryan Cranston as Doc, at least. Or better yet, Nic Cage as Doc. He's already batshit crazy.

You know, if this reboot had happened 10 years ago or so, we could've possibly had Shia Labeouf as Marty. I mean, he's got the type of mannerisms as MJF had playing that role.

Shia would still be great if they did the originally intended dark version of BTTF. I'd probably be on board for that. Bryan Cranston as Doc? I'd also go for that. Only as long as they went dark and didn't do a straight remake. Or make it a spin off of Marty's kid or something. I'm not against that.

Funny that you mention Shia. Several years back, there were talks of a BTTF remake with Shia Labeouf as Marty and Jeff Daniels as Doc.

I don't know about "Jaws", but Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale have the final say on "Back to the Future", not Universal. Both co-creators have said their current contracts prevent the studio from furthering the series without their approval until they die. Gale's also mentioned that both have also been taking steps, to ensure their estates maintain that arrangement later.
